Mike Huckabee: 13 Things You Didn’t Know About Him
Yahoo! News / The Fiscal Times ^ | January 5, 2015 | Maureen Mackey

Posted on 01/05/2015 5:01:41 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

As a regular presence on the Fox News Channel for six years, former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, 59, hasn’t exactly been hiding in the political shadows. Though he didn’t vie for the presidency in 2012, he’s been regularly airing his conservative and evangelical views on his top-rated weekend show, Huckabee. An outspoken opponent of abortion and gay marriage, this “man of deep faith,” as he calls himself, has also been a presence on weekday radio.

Now the ordained Southern Baptist minister is leaving the media lights to consider a possible run for the GOP nomination for the White House in 2016.

On Saturday night, he told Fox viewers, “I’m not going to make a decision about running until late in the spring of 2015, but the continued [political] chatter has put Fox News in a position that just isn’t fair to them.” On his Facebook page he wrote, “The honorable thing to do at this point is end my tenure here at Fox so I can openly talk with potential donors and supporters and gauge support. As much as I have loved doing the show, I love my country more… It may be time for me to leave a zone of comfort to engage in the conflicts that have almost destroyed the bedrock foundations of America.”

Huckabee’s decision to "engage" complicates the increasingly diverse field of potential GOP contenders for 2016, including former Florida Governor Jeb Bush and Sens. Rand Paul (KY), Ted Cruz (TX) and Marco Rubio (FL). Huckabee won the Iowa Republican caucuses in 2008 with 34 percent of the vote and ultimately came in second in the delegate count and third in both the popular vote and number of states won, behind John McCain and Mitt Romney....

Doesn’t he like Common Cause?

As well, isn’t this just an attempt to split the conservative vote, so that we end up with Jeb Bush?

And isn’t that the same role that Huckabee played so that we got John McCain?

I read once, and I cannot find it again, but would appreciate it if someone would post the information with a link or source, that when you can garner over something like 500,000 in supporters and run for president, though you do not get elected you are entitled to a lot of perks, for the rest of your life.

I remember they were particularly nice perks, too.

Yeah, that too.

My Mom calls him Huckelbee or is it Huckelby?

He is really good at spend OPM as well. The renovation of Arkansas’ parks and lodges was a magnificent tribute he made for himself with money from the people.

Huckabee? Meh.

You should ask Al Sharpton. He ran for president. He flew around the country first class and stayed in four star hotels, all with other peoples money.

Huckabee can’t be stupid enough to think he can get the GOP nomination. He’s got to be angling for a cabinet position if a Republican wins next year. He’s got a cushy TV gig that can help him live comfortably for the rest of his life. I don’t get it because nobody thinks he has a chance. I can also say the same thing about Rick Santorum. He has no shot either. I guess once someone runs for the presidency and doesn’t get it they have “Potomac Fever” for the rest of their lives.

Ron Paul really lived the life of being a cult leader, for a lowly congressman, he managed to live the political life large and spent millions that people sent him.

Huckabee was paid-off by Jeb Bush ... to get all those “Evangelical Christian Votes” in the Iowa Cauceses (sp) in 2016 ...

while Jeb Bush targets the Chamber of Commerce “Amnesty Whores” ...

the idea being to dilute conservatives votes for someone like Ted Cruz ...

Mike Huckabee is cast to play the role of “Little Pastor Ricky Santorum” in the GOP 2016 political contests ...

Yup. More conservatives in the field means more split votes among our side and Jeb gets the nomination. I didn’t think about that. I’ve always been dubious about Huckabee’s “conservative” credentials. He seems the type who would accommodate anyone if the price was right.

14. He pardoned a criminal who later ambushed and killed four Seattle area police officers preparing for their Sunday morning shift at a Starbucks.

“The Lakewood police officer shooting took place on Sunday, November 29, 2009, when four Lakewood, Washington police officers were murdered at the former Forza Coffee Co. coffee shop which was located at 11401 Steele Street South in the Parkland unincorporated area of Pierce County, Washington. One gunman, later identified as Maurice Clemmons, entered the coffee shop, fired at the officers as they sat working on their laptop computers preparing for their shifts, and then fled the scene.[1][2] After a two-day manhunt that spanned several cities in the Puget Sound region, the gunman was shot and killed by a Seattle Police Department officer in south Seattle after refusing orders to stop.[3]” Wickipedia.

Really? None have actually announced yet, that I see, including Huckaby.

Ben Carson is considering it and says he’ll announce by May, so he MIGHT be running. (2 Iowa trips)

Ted Cruz hasn’t announced that I can find...and having been born in Canada, he might have eligibility issues. (4 Iowa Trips)

Jindal hasn’t announced, but he is meeting with Iowa pastors. He could have eligibility issues too. (4 trips)

Rand Paul is indeed a nut case... I don’t count him conservative. (3 Trips)

Rick Perry hasn’t announced either, but he did decline to run for re-election as Gov, he’s gathered prominent republicans and he has made 8 trips to Iowa. All indicators are he will run.

Scott Walker says he’s seriously considering it. (2 trips)
