Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) on Tuesday night ruled out running for majority leader after Republicans captured the upper chamber.
Asked on CBS if he would consider challenging GOP Senate Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), Cruz replied, "under no circumstances."
The Texas senator and Tea Party favorite, though has declined to say whether he would vote for McConnell for majority leader.
Asked if there would be a challenger to McConnell, Cruz said, "I dont think anyone has declared their intention to run, and that will be a decision for the conference next week, and well see."
"My practice has been not to second guess leadership decisions," Cruz said when asked why he is reluctant to express support for McConnell as leader.
"I recognize folks like to focus on interpersonal jockeying between politicians in Washington. Look, I think most Americans couldnt care less about politicians in Washington, he added....

It would also get in the way of running for president, if he chooses to do so.

Cruz is the defacto POTUS.
...however, I will run for President.
It would be a cold day in hell before Cruz would win Majority leader. They hate him! lol
Remember when things were so desperate Fred Thompson looked good.
I see him now, selling reverse mortgages and question my wisdom at that moment.
YES!
Bingo.
If he thinks people out here don’t care who the leaders are, I think he’s missed the message. We sure as hell do care, and McConnell has got to go.
He will sell us out across the board.
I have zero confidence in McConnell, and leadership is a very big deal if you want to get anything done.
The leader can just opt not to bring important stuff to the floor. End of story.
Senator Fred Thompson, then and now, is a giant compared to Mr. Obama, Leaders Pelosi & Reid and just about any Democrat you can name, no matter what he is doing at this moment to support his young family.
And let’s not forget his support of the national popular vote.
Fred was a giant, but I dunno about now. He's doing all of these reverse mortgage commercials, which I also view as a reverse mortgage on his reputation.
There is a thread - and I CANNOT find it, ever - from 2007 where it was Fred Thompson who chose Sarah for VP should he get the nom.
It was just an article stuck in a thread, not a thread of its own.
I just went out to find confirmation of that. I didn’t find it.
None the less, I believe the majority leader can block bills from coming to a vote.
We’ve had big debates about this, and the idea the Democrats wouldn’t even allow things to come to a vote.
I have something else I need to do now, but I’ll come back.
