"Rand Paul is right," Rev. Al Sharpton said on MSNBC's Morning Joe on Friday after the Kentucky Senator empathized with African-Americans who believe their rights were threatened by police officers.
Paul published a TIME op-ed on Thursday discussing the issue of the "militarization" of the police force and what it meant in the showdown between police officers and protestors in Ferguson, Missouri reacting to the shooting death of Michael Brown.
"Given the racial disparities in our criminal justice system, it is impossible for African-Americans not to feel like their government is particularly targeting them," Paul wrote, after criticizing the racial disparity of the criminal justice system and the militarization of the police force.
Sharpton agreed with Paul's assertion, pointing out that the militarization was only one part of the problem....

I suppose you support the militarization of the police then. Proof that the word conservative grows more meaningless by the day.
No, I’m not slavishly devoted to Rand and his sire, if that’s what you really mean.
Howard Johnson is right!
Sharpton at fits the old busted clock spec.
Seemingly accurate 2 times a day.
r.
Left or right. No matter. We don’t need our local police “ Transformed” into Obana’s. Occupy-action army.
BTW, the “militarization” of the police that has slowly evolved over the last 40 years could be nullified in less than a day. That’s the lesson of the Cliven Bundy ranch stand-off that almost no one cares to talk about. We are the largest, best equipped army that has ever existed on this planet. Right now, today.
tumblindice is right about Howard Johnson being right.
Not only was it authentic frontier gibberish, it expressed a courage little seen in this day and age.
The left sure likes what Rand is up to these days.
It will work like this for the liberals ........
Open primaries .... vote Rand
General election ........ vote Hillary.
They gave republicans McCain by doing that.
Vince Ferrer Johnson is right about tumblindice Johnson being right about Howard Johnson being right.
Rand Paul, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson don’t live in high crime areas but they pander to black criminals committing crimes in those areas. This is so ridiculous.
Alone or almost alone in the world, we have local police forces. (In other countries, other police forces are managed, equipped and paid at a national level). The militarization of the police is not necessarily a bad thing. It provides a somewhat more capable armed counter to any attempt at a national dictatorship. Local police forces will be the core of any militia that rises against a would-be Fidel Castro in White House.
Remember Obama promised to create a civilian force that is better armed than the military?
“I suppose you support the militarization of the police then. “
No - Rand Paul brought up a red herring to get attention for his never ending quest to broaden his tent by kissing asses. What the hell does militarization of police have to do with this case? Were tanks involved? Or is he saying that the cops should be disarmed?
Having the charlatan Sharpton on his side will serve Rand as well as Newt holding hands with Nancy.
Militarization of police has nothing to do with this robber getting shot and killed.
Two separate issues are being conflated.
Now that’s a helpful endorsement for a Republican candidate!
Strange bedfellows.
