Divided they stand? Billionaire in push to carve up California into six states

A billionaire tech investor says he has enough backing to put on the ballot a plan to split California into six states.

Timothy Draper, a venture capitalist founder of a Silicon Valley-based venture capital firm that has invested in such tech companies as Twitter, HotMail, Skype and Tesla, told Reuters he has the 808,000 signatures needed on a petition to force the measure onto a public referendum in November 2016. Under the far-fetched plan, one state would be called "Silicon Valley" and would include the tech mecca, as well as San Francisco.

"California needs a reboot," Draper, who has spent $4.9 million of his own money on the effort, said in a press release. "Six Californias is our opportunity to solve the many problems we face today. ... Six states that are more representative and accountable. Six states that embrace innovation and strive to improve the lives of residents."

Draper's group plans to submit the signatures today, according to a Tweet.

A state dubbed "Jefferson" would include the northernmost portion; "South California" would be comprised of San Diego and eastern Los Angeles while the rest of L.A. would be called "West California." A province called "North California" would be built around Sacramento, and "Central California" would be made up of the central valley farm region, including Tulare and Fresno counties.

So if voters approved this, it would still take an act of Congress in Washington to happen.

What if voters in some regions approve it but others don’t?

The fact that this movement to break apart the state has been around for so long and continues to grow shows the growing frustrations that so many of California's citizens have been feeling with no way to correct the outrageous decisions coming out of the state capitol.

Personally, I am all for it. I would definitely support the option of finally getting a conservative representative or several to faithfully hold to our values in the federal government.

God knows Pelosi, Boxer, and Moonbeam Brown never had any reason to do so.

They only want to do this to get more communist politicians in office.

Hmmm, He must have been sitting around thinking “How can we guarantee a Democratic controlled Senate until the end of time... Of course! We will just add a dozen commies!”

Not a problem. We can just quarter Wyoming and divide Idaho into thirds.

Kidding aside, the logic of this proposal is to simply abolish the Senate and have a unicameral legislature apportioned by population.

I would rather go the other way, turn back the clock, and repeal the direct election of senators. Return the Senate to its constitutional role as a representative of the states in a blended and balanced legislature.

Hmmm... let's see: get rid of being automatically associated with such cesspools such as SanFran city, Bezerkely, East Oakland and East Palo Alto, and of course East LA (just to name a few)?

I'd go for it.

Requires approval of 3/4 of other states. Would they be eager to dilute their power? NO!

What power?
None of the states are doing anything that could shake things up, like, say, deploying their national guard to forcibly end the invasion.

Mexico's got dibs on those two.

They can keep them. Those are already lost, and nothing coming out of there has been at all helpful to the rest of California's more sensible citizens.

Until we can agree to get rid of the gangbangers and illegals infesting those places, they are nothing more than blatant terrorist magnets and a constant threat to the rest of us.

There are already reports that gangs are helping to transport chinese and somali nationals here for a price.

There are already reports that gangs are helping to transport terrorists here for a price. There are already reports that gangs are helping to transport mooslims here for a price.

But I repeat Myself.

And it’ll go nowhere.

They said quite worse about Ronald Reagan, and he turned out to be one of the greatest presidents we ever had.

So what about North and South Dakota then, as well as East and West Virginia? Plus how about Joisey and New Yohke?

When they made the Maltese Falcon in 1941, LA was 95% anglo.

So it's an invasion. Unfortunately, I don't see us rolling it back.

Can you say “non sequitur”? I thought you could.

Electing Reagan, and splitting CA into four states, have about as much in common as do fish and bicycles.

But what the heck; indulge in your fantasy. It’s harmless and inexpensive.

Why 6? Three would be enough.

NorCal (Jefferson)
Coastal (Commies)
SoCal (Aztlan)
