Chris McDaniel, almost the next Ted Cruz, risks political ruin (For not conceding)

Chris McDaniel, the tea partyer who nearly beat Sen. Thad Cochran in Tuesday's Mississippi primary runoff, still hasn't conceded. Analysts say he's damaging his future.

Chris McDaniel came within a few thousand votes of being the next Ted Cruz.

Now, two days after his stunning loss in Mississippi’s high-stakes GOP Senate runoff, Mr. McDaniel risks ruining a potentially bright political future, say both Mississippi and national political observers.

The charismatic, tea party-backed state senator, who took on six-term Sen. Thad Cochran in the marquee primary of 2014, has still refused to concede the race, claiming “voter irregularities.” Thursday afternoon, McDaniel’s campaign called on the state Republican chairman to direct circuit clerks to “cooperate with McDaniel volunteers seeking election data.”

Mississippi election officials have said that the vote went smoothly.

“McDaniel was understandably shell-shocked Tuesday,” writes Sam Hall in the Jackson (Miss.) Clarion Ledger. “His non-concession speech was red meat for his supporters, but it played poorly on the national scene where most were quickly agreeing that this election was over.”

That included groups such as FreedomWorks and the Senate Conservatives Fund. By Wednesday morning, even Senator Cruz, the conservative Texas firebrand, had congratulated “my colleague Thad.”

“As a student of history, I can say that when one goes out a gentleman or a lady, there is a residue of goodwill and they live to fight another day,” says John Gizzi, chief political correspondent of the conservative website Newsmax. “I fear that unless he comes out and embraces Thad by the weekend, Chris McDaniel will not get another opportunity."(continued)

Willie Horton was a fact. The race-baiting KKK lie was a smear. How is it you can’t figure out the difference?

Exactly. You know what this article is?

It’s the equivalent of telling Chris, “Boy, yer gonna do big thangs, we can tell, but you got ta wait yer turn. Don’t go all-in now. You got to let us win a few hands. Then you can have a shot.”

Makes me sick.

Electing Childers could give the Democrats the 50th Senate seat they need in the fall to preserve their majority. (Biden would cast the deciding vote in case of 50/50 ties, of course.) That’s not a big risk on legislation given that Republicans will control the House but it’s a huge risk on Supreme Court nominations, if/when Harry Reid ends up nuking the filibuster and allowing confirmation by simple majority vote. If O knows he can get a nominee through with just 51 votes, he’ll feel safer nominating someone who’s further left. Also, the more seats you hand to Democrats now, the better position they’ll be in come 2016, when they’re expected to clean up in battleground states. Sean Trende thinks there’s even a (small) chance that Democrats will win a filibuster-proof majority. If you sacrifice Mississippi now, you’re making that marginally more likely.

Well .. Bush didn’t concede either - in 2000.

And .. the dems hated him for it. That’s the main reason they tried to destroy his terms in office.

And .. I think it has a little to do with the fact that Obama seems to be determined to destroy Iraq.

We’ve been hearing the same thing for years, but guess what. SCOTUS stamped Obamacare with the seal of approval. Repubican judge voted for it. Repubican judges have helped overturn marriage in state after state, Bush appointments and so forth.

I cannot in good conscience aid and abet someone as sleazy, vicious, disgusting, and demented as Thad Cockring. He deserves to lose, and I think he will lose if this vote isn’t overturned. half of the base in that state is PISSED.

Easy. 1000 times more Willie Horton clones were released early and caused no further mayhem. Therefore showing a black man in those ads without the background historical facts is blasphemy at best.

Know who won that court case for him, at the age of 29?

You get a few more Ginsburg clones in SCOTUS and you can kiss this country good bye. The current SCOTUS has made enormous amount of rulings 5-4. We are that close from from losing every social issue. Abortions will be legal even after a child is born alive and well simply because mother or father will be affected adversely with another child. Not only gay marriage will become legal in all 50 states, do not be shocked if more than 2 people getting married will be legal.

Sorry, I can not take that chance. I do not have to love Cochran. I just have to put up with him for 1 more term. He may not even last 6 years in office.

Then maybe you should email Thad Cochran and tell him to concede now because he won by fraud

’ Therefore showing a black man in those ads without the background historical facts is blasphemy at best.’

Blasphemy? Racism is your religion?

It doesn’t mean what you think it means.

Al Gore used the FACT of Dukakas’ habit of furloughing murders to illustrate that Dukakas was unserious about crime. The rape of a woman happened as a direct result of Dukakas’ policies. It was fair game.

The lies, smears and race-baiting used by Cochran against McDaniels had no basis in fact. They were the lowest form of scorched earth. The idea that McDaniels should support Cochran under any circumstances after that is psychotic. Only if you want more of such behavior should it be rewarded.

What will you write AFTER McDaniel endorses Cochran?
Anything is possible in politics.

In the meanwhile McDaniel should not concede until the illegal repeat voting by democrats is resolved.

So be it!

Do you really expect the GOP to stand up to Obama in any event?

I have never seen a more despicable and stupid group of political ‘leaders’ than those in the GOP house and senate leadership!

Obama will just have more Republicans to blame for his failures!

Analysts say he's damaging his future.

Analysts: As in liberal news writers and reporters who are afraid he's going to pull it out.

I don't! The old guard GOP needs to retire, and none too soon.

But realistically it can not happen in one election cycle. 10 years ago it was much worse. It is getting better every election cycle. But I see no point in replacing the old guard in toto immediately with democrats. I will jump out of my window if democrats control congress for 40 years like they did until 1994.

Played poorly to whom? The Leftist Republicans? Prolly yes but not to Conservatives who think its treacherous for a Republlican to call another Republican a KKK member in a primary.

Letting Mitchie McConnell prove that a "GOP" Senate leader can be just as despicable as Harry Reid has no value. The GOP elite are pigs every bit as much as the Demonrat leaders are pigs. Obozo is destroying the country (just as Romney would have) and Mitchie McConnell has no greater worries than cuddling Wall Street and K Street. Six of one and half a dozen of the other.

If Mitchie becomes Majority Leader in Name Only (Mark Kirk, Susan Collins, LAMAR!!! Alexander, Bob Corker, and about a dozen other McConnellite whores are servants of the Demonrat ideology and no part of a "Republican" majority). Mitchie will then do a whiny duet with Weeper of the House John (Fore!/Hic/Coppertone) Boehner about how you just cannot expect the "Republican" House and Senate to get anything done until there is an (Elitist) "GOP" President in place to completely sell the base down the river.

If they ever had control of both houses of Congress with or without the White House, they will simply spend their time and energy stuffing Muffie's trust fund and ignoring each and every actually important issue dear to the base. Unless and until we STOP voting for GOP Ruling Class slime, nothing will improve. I am beginning to understand the, ummm, enthusiasm and tactics of the French Revolution. Do Mitchie and Boehner wonder why we don't eat cake if we have no bread??? Off with their heads!

Remember Mississippi!
