HATTIESBURG, Miss. With only hours before the polls were to close in the Republican Senate runoff here, Senator Thad Cochrans campaign was still reaching out to traditional black Democrats in his effort to defeat his Tea Party-backed opponent, State Senator Chris McDaniel. But turnout in African-American precincts appeared to be low, and McDaniel supporters were optimistic.
The hard feelings generated by the race were also in evidence, with both conservative groups and the N.A.A.C.P. sending out poll watchers to look for what they considered to be fraud or intimidation. The United States Justice Department also said that it was aware of concerns about voter intimidation and is monitoring the situation.
In downtown Hattiesburg, Miss., a trickle of Democratic voters filtered out of the Court Street United Methodist Church on Tuesday afternoon, saying they had voted for a Republican for the first time in their lives and all of them had voted for Mr. Cochran....

Only 1:30 to go now.
In MS, the TP might actually be able to police the polls.
How’s this race going so far? Any news yet?
If blacks are voting in a Deep South GOP primary there is no such thing as voter suppression.
If Black Democrats who didn’t vote in early June and are not politically active are showing up at GOP primary where is the voter intimidation?
Tell that to General Holder and Valerie Jarrett.
There’s an open thread.
Found it. Thanks.

This is a true tear in the social fabric. Is the Uniparty trying to make itself mainstream?
When a republican asks a black to vote for a republican because they need their votes to win but not because of their beliefs, it smacks of racism.
Wow! So many RATs suddenly voting Republican! such BS! RATs vote RAT and they NEVER change!
So funny. Cochran can’t get enuf Republicans to vote for him, so he begs for RAT votes. And the GOP sees nothing wrong with this picture....
Interesting history I have been reading today. When Senator Cochran ran in 1978, he was elected with 45% of the vote. He was the first Republican senator from Mississippi since Reconstruction. He won that race due to Charles Evers siphoning a huge amount of voters from the Democrat candidate who I never heard of and can’t remember his name after just reading it five minutes ago. In today’s election, Charles Evers has been putting out the call for black voters to support Senator Cochran. How ironic if this is the way Thad wins this runoff.
Does anyone have a copy of Newt and Haley’s contract with America?
Sorry, but, those articles are not very encouraging.
Low turnout would seem to favor McDaniel imo. His people
are going to get out I would think.
Do you think if someone who voted RAT their whole life, suddenly decided they were gonna vote Republican, that that meant that that person was up to here with the establishment political system? and if that was so, wouldn’t it be more likely that they would be in favor of the TEA party as opposed to an establishment GOP candidate?
