For years, Gov. Scott Walker has been a rock-solid proponent of traditional marriage between one man and one woman.
As Milwaukee County executive, he opposed efforts to provide health care benefits to the gay partners of county employees. He also spoke out in favor of a 2006 constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage.
In 2010, he campaigned for governor as a supporter of traditional marriage. He also opposed a law that allowed gay couples to register with counties to get certain benefits, such as hospital visitation rights.
"My position has been clear," Walker said Thursday.
Indeed, it was.
But that is no longer the case.
During a 12-minute news conference at a muddy and messy groundbreaking event in Oak Creek, the first-term Republican governor argued that his position on same-sex marriage is no longer relevant.
"It really doesn't matter what I think now," Walker said at one point. "It's in the constitution."
And it's out of his hands, he suggested.
U.S. District Court Judge Barbara Crabb has overturned the state's constitutional amendment, but Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen is appealing that decision. Van Hollen is also raising the possibility of prosecutors charging county clerks who permit gay marriages.
"If the people voted to change something in the state's constitution, I think it is right for the state's attorney general to uphold the constitution," Walker said, without explicitly stating whether he agreed with the idea of prosecuting county clerks.
Ultimately, he argued, the matter could be decided by the U.S. Supreme Court, and the state will follow that ruling.
But where is Walker on the issue now?(continued)

What a coward!
Putting one’s head between the legs on tough issues won’t cut it if he wants my support.
this
Politicians are punting the ball to the courts even when they claim to support man-woman marriage like many of the 95 percent not real conservative Republicans we have in office now.
But my gut tells me the courts will have the final say on this in favor of same sex marriage and things only get worse from there.
People have always debated over how conservative or liberal sexuality should be.
When King Henry VIII of England wanted to marry as many women as he wanted to produce a male heir the church in Rome stood in his way.
Henry created his own “establishment of religion” called the Church of England and forced it on his country and people prosecuting, persecuting and even executing those who stood in his way.
Henry VIII’s insistence on his own liberalism regarding sex and marriage would lead to great turmoil and conflict in England for the next century or more.
The good that came out of it was that some of the dissenters settled in the New World leading to our Constitution and its First Amendment in the Bill of Rights.
Where do Americans who dissent from this liberalism in sexuality being imposed on them turn? People will be targeted and churches that do not tow the line on homosexuality and gay marriage will be targeted by the mobs and or the state eventually.
I feel no need to condemn homosexuality or gay marriage and enter the sexuality debate, but it doesn’t mean anything in the end because this LGBT-Gay Marriage movement is a threat to the freedom of us all. It is a creeping tyranny and we can’t repeat Pastor Niemoller’s mistakes in the face of it.
>> It is a creeping tyranny
It’s moving more rapidly than at a creeping rate.,
The tyranny is a movement in the courts, legislatures, on the street and in the media.
It really isn’t totally and completely codified into “law” yet but it’s on the way.
It would be nice if religious folks and the LGBT activists could “Live and Let Live” but the LGBT movement must silence all opposition and is displaying its intentions to do just that in violation of the Constitution.
I draw my line there, not on gay marriage itself.
Horse pucky....
Calling Scott Walker a coward is pretty low and petty...
This governor has withstood massive attacks against him personally and politically, pretty much EVERYTHING the progressive left had...the kitchen sink and the toilet
Walker is letting the issue play itself out legally...as he should...
Any statement he makes would actually be meaningless...except for his enemies to use against him..
The people of his state already know his position, why throw fuel on the fire... ?
No wonder we are the stupid party...
When Walker says it doesn’t matter what he thinks because “It’s in the Constitution”, he’s right. BUT, what’s in the Wisconsin State Constitution is an amendment that says marriage is defined as the union of a man and woman. Radical judges overruling the will of the people is not part of that state’s constitution. Walker how cowered down to the Obama sodomite nazis like a dog in heat. I use to think he was a man of principle and integrity. No more. He’s an opportunist politician that is more concerned with getting reelected than he is for standing up for Christian values and what is right. Stick a fork in this latest republican fraud. He’s done.
OMG! Can you imagine the uproar if the subject matter was something the Libtards VOTED for, then was overturned by a single judge?
How I HATE these judges!
LOL! How wrong you are.
Not speaking clearly on moral matters is NEVER smart. It is cowardice, and the West is drowning in it these days.
Support for Gay Marriage is the Mark of the Beast.
Dont give these leftist bastards any amno...
In the early fifties you could say to hell with them dam socialists, every one agreed, in the sixties most agreed, in the seventies quite a few in the eighties maybe half, from the late nineties’ to now all you get is silence and maybe a dirty look and it is the same with gays.
America has gone sodomite.
Walker is a coward. When was the last time he answered a reporter and said marriage was the union of a man and woman, that his religious beliefs and common sense tells him marriage will always be a man and woman, no matter what the liberal courts rule? When was the last time? What is he scared of? I’ll tell you what he’s scared of. He’s scared of the backlash from the liberal media. So what does he do. He now keeps his mouth shut on the subject of marriage. He’s a coward in the first degree. Prove me wrong.
