HUNTSVILLE, Alabama - The views are as different as their political parties.
When it comes to Sarah Palin speaking in Huntsville next week at the New Hope High School graduation, Republicans love it and Democrats don't.
Palin, who ran for vice president on the John McCain ticket in 2008 and the former governor of Alaska, will speak at the Von Braun Center's Propst Arena on May 21.
AL.com reached out to the chairs of the Democratic and Republican parties in Madison County for their thoughts about Palin.
First, from Clete Wetli, chair of the Madison County Democrats:
"I really thought it was a terrible joke or a prank. I think it's absolutely appalling. Surely they could find somebody who would be less divisive and more inspirational for the students. Time and time again, she's really embarrassed herself and also embarrassed the country. I'm not sure what the reason would be they would ask someone like that to speak at a commencement ceremony. I thought it was a joke at first - a really bad joke.
"I thought it was a fake news story. That's the thing I don't understand. Why in the world would you do something like that when she has such a legacy of misquotes and gaffes and on and on and one. Why would the school want to embarrass itself having someone like that speak at the graduation ceremony. To that point, part of what we expect students to do is to follow through with things. She didn't even finish her term as governor and used her 15 minutes of fame to do nothing but enrich herself and carry on this ideological agenda. I think it's a horrible choice."
And from John Como, chair of the Madison County Republicans:
"I think it's a fantastic idea. Why shouldn't she? There is nothing wrong with a strong Republican, conservative woman coming to talk to high school students. The sooner that we get over the fact that there are strong Republican women who have a positive message for our young people - and that could be good politicians and good leaders in our country - the better off our country is going to be.
"I think it's fantastic. I wish I had thought of it myself.
"I'd love to have her come speak to the Madison County Republicans. Whichever one of the students who reached out to have her come needs to be patted on the back and applauded."
Like! Add Joe Biden to that too. It would be hysterical.
Why in the world would you do something like that when she has such a legacy of misquotes and gaffes and on and on and one.
Based on that no one would ever ask Obama to speak anywhere for any reason..........
Then let her go. If she's embarrassing your opponents, let her go!
The stupid runs deep in this one.
poor word choice about how close Alaska is to Russia....Psst! She only said Russia can be seen from parts of Alaska. Tina Fey said “ I can see Russia from my front door”
If she were exactly the same person she is, except pro-abortion, she'd be a left's favorite Republican.
I should have said, that the liberals twisted around what Sarah said about how close Alaska is to Russia, to make it sound as if Sarah is a dunce.
Even today, some people believe that Sarah Palin said she could see Russia from her house, not that it was Tina Fey doing an impersonation who actually said that. The media/entertainment complex completely mashes quotes and appearances together, that some people believed that Sarah herself said that.
Typical Democrat mush brain response:
“I really thought it was a terrible joke or a prank.”
Becaue everyone in his world thinks just like him!
“I think it’s absolutely appalling.”
Of course, any speech that doesn’t fit his daily narrative is appalling and should be suppressed immediately.
“Surely they could find somebody who would be less divisive and more inspirational for the students.”
Make a suggestion there Demonrat! Plus, I’d like you to name one thing that Sarah as said or done that is divisive.
“Time and time again, she’s really embarrassed herself and also embarrassed the country.”
OK, name one example. Just so you know, Tina Fey’s comments on SNL don’t count.
Wasn’t dissing you. Just didn’t know if you were confused.
Sarah will do, be, and speak wise counsel. I have faith in Sarah. She has children not far removed in ages from graduates. This lady has received many opportunities to speak to people all over the world. Especially politics, of course.
God Bless Sarah Palin and may she receive insight from Thee Father, in Jesus name, amen.
