A founding father of the conservative movement who is now a star among Tea Party activists is urging the GOP to choose a governor to duel Washington insider Hillary Clinton for the White House, saying that 2016 isn't the best time for Sen. Ted Cruz to run.
Often called the funding father of conservatism for pioneering direct mail fundraising, Richard A. Viguerie believes that the Texas senator is a game changer for the movement but that the best way to beat Clinton is with a candidate from outside the beltway.
I don't think it would be best for the conservative movement for Cruz to run this time, said the Viguerie, a legendary conservative marketer who has just published a new book, Takeover: The 100-year war for the soul of the GOP and how conservatives can finally win it.
Assuming the Democrat product' is going to be Hillary Clinton this time, a Washington insider, you don't want to run another Washington type against her, said Viguerie, 80, one of former President Ronald Reagan's original kitchen cabinet members.
His pick: Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, a former House member who is winning kudos for his conservative approach to state politics, teamed with anti-establishment Sen. Rand Paul as the vice presidential nominee....

I could go with Pence\Rand but Rand would probably crush Pence in the primary before that ever came to pass.
I am a huge Mike Pence fan and could definitely get behind him. That said, calling Cruz a Washington insider is a little silly. Pence was in Washington for a number of years before returning to Indiana. Cruz was Texas’s Solicitor General and has spent a career taking on Washington.
I’d vote for either one.
My guess is that if Hilary wins..........none of it really matters.
Just one glance at a picture of Pence tells me he couldn’t win.
I can always tell a winner at a glance.
I just don’t want a bush or fat boy, or loser romney. But any conservative is fine with me.
Oh.....wait.
Remember, if patriots forced the federal government to work within its constitutional Article I, Section 8-limited powers, then probably nobody would want to be president anyway. That’s partly why the Founding States established the electoral college to elect president.
In other words, the only reason that corrupt politicians try to get themselves elected to the Oval Office or Congress is to follow the tsunami of illegal federal taxes to DC, taxes which Congress cannot justify under its Secton 8-limited powers. Such politicians get themselves elected by exploiting low-information voters who do not understand that much of the promises that federal politicians make to get themselves elected are constitutionally indefensible.
Didn't everyone assume Hitlary was going to be the candidate in 2008. You know what happens when you assume?
can’t won’t vote for any Paul and can’t won’t vote for any Bush
Cruz.
Palin/Cruz, for 16 years of conservative bliss
Ted Cruz or bust, stupid ass GOP.
Choose wisely.
I’d like to take a closer look at Scott Walker.
I will not support Rand Paul. He is proving himself to be a go along to get along liberal. He arrogantly talks down to social conservatives. No thanks.
Mike Pence is a closet lib.
CRUZ/WEST
I like the idea alot, but it is a very longgggggggg shot
What is this bilge about it being someone’s “turn”? WE need a man like Ted Cruz now! How did Dole’s, McCain’s and Romney’s “turns” work out? Bob
We have 2 years. I say we can do this.
