Sarah Palin is known to say that America is governed by a permanent political class, and recent comments by former first lady Barbara Bush about how she views former President Bill Clinton lends credence to that point of view.
Before Bushs recent health issues, she sat down for an interview with C-SPAN, part of a series of profiles on Americas first ladies, Investors Business Daily reported.
In a candid conversation, Mrs. Bush reveals the bond of friendship that has formed between former President George H.W. Bush, herself and Clinton, whom she said visits every summer.
While noting that they do not agree politically, Mrs. Bush seems to almost excuse some of Clintons more questionable behavior by stressing that his father was not around.
I think that he thinks of George a little bit like the father he didnt have, she said. And hes very loving to him and I really appreciate that.(continue)

You just went through my 20,835 threads? What are you, a supercomputer?
Now she's just being annoying.
The influence a political wife has on her husband is huge, and it's always been pretty clear that Babs has no real ideological core. She has a few conservative instincts, she has some liberal ones. Too many Republicans in the ruling class are like her, unfortunately.
I've always thought the "kinder, gentler" crap went straight from her mouth to the rest of the world via George's microphone.
GHW Bush and GW Bush and their wives have all yucked it up with the Clintons and Obamas. They should be ashamed.
Yes they are.
I think that he thinks of George a little bit like the father he didnt have, she said. And hes very loving to him and I really appreciate that.

Admittedly I didn’t (nor will) read the whole ‘hit piece’ but using the concept of the highlighted portion (above) in that context the ‘headline’ statement would be ‘ok’.
Funny how they bashed Nancy Reagan for her 8 years and when she opined ‘I don’t think Ollie North should be a Senator’ (close not a direct quote) she all of a sudden became the ‘darling of the left’ while she was needed. - Which goes back to Connie Chung ‘ambushing’ Newt’s Mother by asking her if Newt had a pet word for either Hillary or Pelosi(??)- when she said nothing Chung leaned forward and said “come on now, just between you and me”
Naturally the headlines the next day were “Newt says Hillary is a Bitch” According to Newt’s Mom etc etc etc....
Chances when I am 90 or so are I may even say something ‘positive’ in re Bill, Hillary, algore, Jf’nKerry, joebamaBiden, Pelosi, Reid, Obama etc etc etc BUT I am now clarifying I am either suffering dimentia, crazy as a Loon or started drinking again.
BTW heard today the Ambassador to Japan (C Kennedy) was chastising them for their dolphin or whale or seal hunt...May as well tick off and alienate our “Friends” in the Pacific also......
A pox on ALL of them that voted and or supported the latest nonqual position....
JUST think how BAD OFF we would be if we didn’t have Boehner and his diehards protesting all these ‘illegal’ acts the Senate and White Hut are pulling off.....
I fault the Bushs for getting the USA involved in the Middle East quagmire to save the sheiks ,especially the Saudis, that was to keep the USA dependent on oil from the sheiks. These middle east turncoats were friends of Hitler and the USA had soldiers killed and wounded bailing them out in WWII and the Gulf War. I’m waiting to hear what the Bushs have to say about the latest turn of events in Iraq. I didn’t like it when Reagan accepted Bush to be his successor.
Barf Alert!
Ignore the abusive crap...I think this friendship between the elder Bushes and Clinton is very interesting, in the same way that the Carville-Matalin marriage is interesting.
What amazes me is how so many on FR seem to think every single thing in the world is about politics. We’re all people, after all.
Double Barf Alert!
“Oh, they agree politically on all kinds of things. “
Clinton treats women badly. He believes in corruption as a way to get things done.
But you have to give him credit for tacking way to the right after the 94 blowout while Obama just keeps going farther left.
Also under clinton, the cap gains rate went from 33 to 20 percent.
He signed the republican welfare reforms when he could have vetoed them.
And his appointees and aides were a lot more competent than Obama.
did she ever chastise them for legal kiddie porn?
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
Of course she did...sarc
But it would probably be safe to say ‘lil Caroline’ still thinks the food grows in the stores (if she has ever been in one to do some serious grocery shopping)...
The words of some Lib still resound...”Why do people have to hunt deer and say it is for the Meat?
No need to go out and kill animals.
Just go to the store like everyone else and buy it”
Wouldn’t surprise that the Japanese still use the blubber and oil etc from the whales and even Charlie Tuna said his nets were dolphin free.
Isn’t Pelosi or Boxer or Feinstein’s Husband up to their collective bippies in Star Kist monies??? Think it one of them and one also is very active in either supplying commissaries or selling goods to the Military.....
Politics is about the ONLY profession one can go in as a pauper and after 5 or so years you are multimillionaires - then the big money starts (speeches books etc...Which I have absolutely no problem ONCE they leave office, if they can get OTHER people to pay to hear them, fine. Just don’t do it while on the public teat).
bump
I really, really hope you’re wrong about the Bush’s running a cocaine operation out of Arkansas with Clinton in the 1980’s. BUT ever since 2008, when the so called majority elected Obama, in spite of the strings and rings of glittering red warning lights, ever since this ‘experience most improbabale’ has begun with O, I say, nothing is off the table. Almost ANYTHING is possible to have been done, to have been attempted or to have been considered in New Amercian politics. The Bald Eagle may need to be replaced with the Yellow Banana, as in the Banana Republic that we have now become.
Good one. I had forgotten about this.
Here Barbara, have a cigar!
Not to mention a serial rapist.
How close WAS their friendship. We are talking about Clinton.
Oh,great...she “loves” a guy whose campaign floated adultery rumors about her husband to diffuse the FACTS about Clinton’s adultery...
Nothing but snake oil even from the Matriarch of the Bush clan...
And yes, I agree with 2ndDivvet..good for you to tell it like it is, pal...sanitized “truth” helps no one!
