The freesoil party is a good analogy. They elected a fair number of congressmen but were most effective in attracting disaffected Whigs and Democrats into a new party (Republicans).

Maybe we should bring the Whig party back into existence as a name for the fledgling Constitution Party.
The name has no inherent meaning or shade as Republican, Democrat or Libertarian.
Maybe we can co-opt it?
