Huckabee Scolds the Tea Party Groups: ‘Politics Is Not Theology’
Mediaite ^ | December 14, 2013 | Noah Rothman

Posted on 12/15/2013 4:46:32 AM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

Former Arkansas Governor and Fox News Channel host Mike Huckabee weighed in on the escalating feud between establishment Republican politicians and conservative activist groups on Saturday. Asked for his thoughts on House Speaker John Boehner’s (R-OH) admonition of the idealized purism advocated by some outside groups, Huckabee sympathized with Boehner saying that governing is more difficult than activism and “politics is not theology.”

Huckabee began by saying that Boehner was not scolding the tea party movement but conservative groups that capitalize on that movement. He added that some of those groups appear to have an “all or nothing mindset” and that this mentality more often results in getting “nothing.”

“When the movement becomes, sort of, focused in a handful of groups that are raising funds to attack Republicans and the criteria for being attacked is the difference you might have in the tactic of the party, not the philosophy of the party, I think that is what Boehner and the others are really reacting to,” Huckabee continued.

“Governing is tough,” he continued. “Politics is not theology. It’s easy to be pure when you are talking about theology.”

Yes, heard Huckabee doing his "Why can't we all just get along" and "stop calling names because it is uncivil" SHTICK on FOX, nearly blew groceries and hurriedly changed the channel.

The "powers that be" = DemocRAT and Republican just want us all to shut up, pull down our shorts, bend over and take what they want to force upon us from ObamaDEATHcontrol to ILLEGAL ALIEN AMNESTY, to the CARPET BAGGING, ANTI-GUN, RINO Scott Brown running for the NH Senate seat to "Fill in the blank." The whole lot of them are nefarious From Obamessiah to Bonier and can not be trusted. They do not care about America, they do not care about representing their constituents or the American CITIZENS. All they care about is maintaining THEIR POWER and THEIR POSITION and THEIR AGENDA.

Huckabee is just a shill for all of the above, hiding behind an "aw shucks" façade.

In spite of some of his flaws, boy do I miss Glen Beck on FOX. At least he had the guts to present the TRUTH without compromising his conservative principles.

I plug stuff all the time I don’t do…….and comment on it…..and debate it….here and otherwise….often re posting other FREEPERS comments by saying the comments were so good they deserved to be repeated…...but then again, I am here for the issues.

You are here to overcompensate for what must be a lot of personal shortcomings by playing rent a cop. You cannot apparently comment on the issues…..

Nah, he'd rather scold Rush and Hannity for saying stuff on the radio just to make money and get ratings……it allows him to feel so much more self righteous that way.

I remember Rick Warren being hailed as the quintessential conservative and having quite the following on FR.

Hmmmmm. I remember "conservative" talk radio host Hugh Hewitt hailing Warren as the quintessential conservative, and I admit I fell for it until I read Warren's "Purpose Driven Life" and got to know the general mindset and type in his flock first hand. I remember FR being a wonderful place where smart conservatives were seeing through him the same way I was beginning to, and I found FR rather heartening and home-like! But no doubt, many others on FR did cling to the "conservative" Warren myth.

Rule of thumb when it comes to religious leaders: Big Church = Big Government. Whether it's Romney, Warren, or Huck.

I hope your radar has made the same sounds when Ricky Santuckabee appears on your screen as well……same thing, different sweater vest is all…..

You got that one right, CEW. But there will be those who say that rejecting Santorum is engaging in "circular firing squad" behavior. Funny how in this so-called "circular" arrangement, limited government conservatives pretty much all aim at the same guys, like Santorum, who has voted to increase minimum wage many times, refused to cut food stamps, wanted to stop tax money for abortion-friendly Planned Parenthood (good!) but instead of returning that money to individual taxpayers to spend as they please, advocated to keep the tax funding in place but spend it instead on adoption programs because you KNOW the government has to get involved!!!!!! (bad).

The thing that disgusted me most about Santorum was his constant "family values" gimmick. Smarmy, phony, feel-good Hallmark Channel "family values" empty saccarine. As if people who didn't have big families were second-class citizens. Appealing on "family values" is as divisive and phony as appealing on ethnic or racial grounds. Good, righteous values are good and righteous whether being practiced in "families" or not. And if "good family values" lead to prosperity (which Santorum claimed on his website during the 2012 primaries), then Mexico, where family is about the most important thing to the people there, would be much more prosperous than it is.

Santorum is every bit as lame as Huck, you are correct.

That would be Rick Santorum, the guy who, in my opinion, pretty much single-handedly spoiled the chances for the only remotely viable and decent limited government Republican in the 2012 primaries, Newt Gingrich. Had Santorum been the rightly humble and moral Christian he might have been, he'd have followed Rick Perry's cue and gracefully withdrawn from the race and gotten behind Newt. Instead, Santorum basically ensured Romney's nomination.

And I wonder what Santorum would have answered if anyone had ever asked him: "Rick, what is the difference between 'family values' and 'Christian values,' and if they are the same, then why use the term 'family values' when there are many Christians with either no children or who don't make their kids and offspring the focus of their existence?"

The real answer, of course, is because Santorum used the term "family values" in order to remind people that Gingrich had been divorced, and St. Ricky, much holier than most others, hadn't.

Rick Santorum disgusts me, and CEW, as you are informed politically, do you think that he'll throw his hat in the ring again for the 2016 primaries?

Yep, well stated, and so correct. Especially about the smarm factor. I never understood how some otherwise intelligent folks could miss that one…...
