The number of abortions has dropped since the beginning of the recession back in 2008. The CDC attributed the drop to increased use of birth control because in tough economic times, birth control is the least expensive option when compared to abortion or childbirth. (I’ll add that abstinence is even less expensive; however, expecting large numbers of people to adopt abstinence is unrealistic.)
