A new Harper Polling poll shows a plurality of likely Alaskan Republican voters support their former Governor, Sarah Palin, as a U.S. Senate candidate in the 2014 GOP primary over Lt. Gov. Mead Treadwell and 2010 Senate candidate Joe Miller.
The survey of 379 likely Republican voters found that 32 percent support Palin, whereas 30 percent support Treadwell and 14 percent support Miller. The Harper Polling poll, conducted via telephone on May 6 and May 7 on behalf of the Tea Party Leadership Fund, found that 45 percent of likely GOP voters think Palin would “fight hardest for conservative values,” compared to 25 percent who thought that of Treadwell and 15 percent of Miller.
Similarly, the poll found 43 percent thought Palin would be the “strongest person to take on liberal Democrats in Washington,” whereas 27 percent thought that of Treadwell and 13 percent of Miller.
Both Treadwell and Miller have launched formal exploratory committee efforts for the 2014 primary race to determine who would face off against Sen. Mark Begich (D-AK). Palin has not indicated she would run....

Imagine a GOP majority in the Senate led by Palin, Paul, Cruz, Rubio etc?
Diversionary tactic. They would rather have her in the Senate than poised for a WH run in 2016.
I really hope that God has much bigger things planned for her.
Governor Palin AVERAGED 77.3% approval during her governorship, (which she cut short by 16 months) any idea that a Senate campaign would not result in her election, isn’t realistic.

You are right, a Senate job is not the place for a Reagan like leader, an executive type leader, but if she can’t find a path directly to the presidency, then I support whatever she does.
I think her legs got cut out from under her in the 2012 primary, and it showed me how delicate, and unpredictable weaving a path into the primary finals is.
Curiously, then-Gov. Reagan was expected to run against radical ultra-leftist freshman Sen. Alan Cranston at the end of his second term in 1974... but opted out of it because the Watergate fiasco tarred so many promising Republican candidates that year.

I don’t believe Sarah and Todd want to live anywhere near the septic tank called DC. Sarah’s naiveté in accepting McCain’s call has been cured.
Are you sure? Reagan followed his 1968 presidential campaign with a 1976 campaign that almost stole the nomination from vice-president Ford.

Yes, quite sure. Since his two terms as Governor was to end in 1974, the next logical step was to run for Senator against Cranston, which would place him in DC. He could run for President later while in the Senate if he so chose to, and would have the added experience of legislative service. I believe this was his plan in 1972. Unfortunately, with Watergate brewing, his plans changed and polling indicated because of the pro-Democrat winds that he would lose if he ran against Cranston, he opted not to do so. If he had run and lost against Cranston, it would’ve damaged his future viability for President in 1976 or 1980.
The point I was making is that Palin could run for the Senate, as Reagan was planning to do, though if she were to lose against Begich, it would damage her viability for a future Presidential run (as Reagan surmised). She’d probably win, since Begich isn’t popular. But the downside is that she’d also get bogged down in Senate politics, tie her to DC dysfunction, and it would drastically curtail her ability to function as an outsider without portfolio.
I was making the argument that the Senate is really beneath her at this point in time, especially if she is to run in ‘16. At the present time, too, I find myself leaning heavily to Sen. Cruz for President, as he is exhibiting singular leadership in that statist and dysfunctional body, far and above almost any other politician at present, including Governors.
OK, between his governorship in 1974, an his almost being president in 1976.
Ronald Reagan could have been Senator if he had desired it.

Not much polling data out there about Begich since 2011, except for feb. 2013 PPP numbers that show him at 49% approve and 39% disapprove. His numbers tanked in 2010, like most dems, but are up now. Sarah would have an uphill fight to take that seat.
