Former Rep. Ron Paul said the law enforcement that swarmed around Boston in the days following the marathon bombings was scarier than the actual terrorist attack.
The Boston bombing provided the opportunity for the government to turn what should have been a police investigation into a military-style occupation of an American city, he said on the Lew Rockwell website, Politico reported. This unprecedented move should frighten us as much or more than the attack itself.
The terror attacks on April 15 in Boston killed three and injured 264.
Mr. Paul, a former libertarian political candidate who served in Congress as a member of the Republican Party, said the door-to-door searches police conducted in Watertown for the bombing suspects were particularly alarming.
They reminded of a military coup in a far off banana republic, he said....

ron is a little wacky but he’s right on this.
How in the crap is Paul right? Let RonPaul sacrifice one of his 8 year old grandchildren to a bomb and have 15-20 of his family get amputations......
Then see which is scarier.
He’s a wack job and you guys are on the perimeter of his insanity.
Some of us think 9000 paramilitary to get one man is crazy.
Ron Paul is right on this one.
Plus the police did a great job. Although they did trample on an inalienable right or two, at least they found the guy and everything. Oh wait, a normal citizen did that for them.
9000 is a gross exaggeration of the paramilitary involved.
Most were common police officers, few were SWAT.
I’m sure you guys have an effective way to cordon off an area about 2.5 miles in area.
Yeah, I’m sure the guy would have hid in a yard inside a boat if he wasn’t chased, shot and the area put on lockdown....
FantasyLanders for Paul.
People actually there applauded the police for getting the scum out of their neighborhood.
You get my drift, and we disagree.
I did not like the response in Katrina either.
What ever happened the the fellow that was roughed up striped naked and falsely arrested?
I wonder how many people had their arms taken from their homes without warrants or nothin’.
While I’m certainly no fan of Paul, a stopped clock is right twice a day. The police had no warrants, and certainly no probable cause with which to get warrants, and were therefore committing unconstitutional acts. What is even more frightening is that since the subjects . . . err citizens. . . consented, anything the popo saw inside their homes is up for grabs. If Johnny Law noticed a suspicious gun, legal or not, he can get a warrant to go back and get it and search the house again. Ain’t giving up rights grand?
Yeah, and that bugged the crap out of me. Some of us don't cotton to police states.
Then why were so many wearing military gear and military weapons. To quote the VP they were carrying “weapons of war”.
They weren’t even hiding until their pictures were posted. Until then they went to the gym.
“What ever happened the the fellow that was roughed up striped naked and falsely arrested?”
He wasn’t arrested. He was detained, questioned and released.
“I wonder how many people had their arms taken from their homes without warrants or nothin”
Zero. And that is a fact.
Yeah just like Katrina when police and soldiers went door to door illegally confiscating firearms from law-abiding citizens.
“Aint giving up rights grand?”
Your assertion is false. Nobody gave up their rights. The citizens had no problem with the police coming in their homes, so that the police could ensure the terrorist wasn’t hiding there or had taken hostagss.
A warrant is not required unless there is an objection to a search. Nobody demanded a warrant, so no rights were violated.
The reasonable person understood the police were there to help them and eliminate a serious threat.
Even if the response was effective and justified the fact that people are cheering it is scary.
Add in that they knew who this guy was before the bombings and its disgusting. If they weren’t so gung ho ready to shoot people they might have looked at their records and realized they had some terrorists who lived right there.
Lets see, 100 cops are pointing their guns at me and want to come in hmmmmmmm
nobody gave up their rights, pffttt
Really? What's his name? We'd all love to talk to him and get his side of the story.
“I wonder how many people had their arms taken from their homes without warrants or nothin
Zero. And that is a fact.”
Source? I haven’t seen any public assertions of that.
And you know that for a fact? You're sure he wasn't someone who was going to drive #1 and #2 to New York? You're sure?
