Pro Life?

Romney in 1994-””My position has been the same throughout my political career, and it goes back to the days of 1970,” he said. “There was a woman who was running for political office, U.S. Senate. She took a very bold and courageous stand in 1970, and that was in a conservative state. That was that a woman should have the right to make her own choice as to whether or not to have an abortion. Her name was Lenore Romney, she was my mom. Even though she lost, she established a record of courage in that regard.”

Romney in August of 2012:
PELLEY: Well, the platform as written at this convention for the Republicans does not allow for exceptions on abortion with regard to the health of the mother or rape or incest. Is that where you are?

ROMNEY: No. My position has been clear throughout this campaign. I’m in favor of abortion being legal in the case of rape and incest, and the health and life of the mother.

Guns? Mitt Romney-”“Deadly assault weapons have no place in Massachusetts ,” Romney said. “These guns are not made for recreation or self-defense. They are instruments of destruction with the sole purpose of hunting down and killing people.”

Mitt Romney on DADT-” One issue I want to clarify concerns President Clinton’s “don’t ask, don’t tell, don’t pursue” military policy. I believe that the Clinton compromise was a step in the right direction. I am also convinced that it is the first of a number of steps that will ultimately lead to gays and lesbians being able to serve openly and honestly in our nation’s military. That goal will only be reached when preventing discrimination against gays and lesbians is a mainstream concern, which is a goal we share.”

Boy Scouts
Romney in 1994-”Romney said that homosexuals “should be allowed” to serve as Boy Scout leaders. At the time he served on the national (volunteer) executive board of directors (NEB) of the BSA.”
DEC 2000 – The 2002 Salt Lake Winter Olympic Committee, under Mitt Romney’s leadership, banned local Boy Scouts from helping at the Olympics games.
8/05/2012 - A spokeswoman for Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney, Andrea Saul, wrote in an e-mail to the press that Romney’s 1994 public support of homosexuals in scouting remained his position today.

Don’t ask don’t tell for the military is the right policy. It is true that Romney changed his position on abortion....but so did RR. If I were here to defend each and every flip flop made by a politician we would be here all day. You are ignoring my larger points. I get that you hate Mormons. My larger point supports the thesis of this article. 2004 turnout numbers would have elected Romney. That is true. 1972 and 1984 -—if we had the same demographics then-—as we do today——Romney would have won in a similar landslide as in those two years. That is my basic point. But you have your other issues. Mormonism is an issue with you. Romney’s flip flops are an issue-—never mind that most politicians flip flop. I accept that fact. One rule of thumb, though, when a politician is flipping in YOUR direction-—never complain about it. When Ronald Reagan in mid life transitioned from an FDR Democrat to a Barry Goldwater Republican, we did not condemn him, we embraced him. I welcome all politicians to the pro-life cause when they come over. But you have your own axe to grind. I’m trying to look at the larger picture. MR was not the 100% pure ideological conservative some were looking for. But by ANY measure he was fantastically successful in life and would have made a VASTLY superior POTUS compared to what we’re stuck with now.
