Don’t ask don’t tell for the military is the right policy. It is true that Romney changed his position on abortion....but so did RR. If I were here to defend each and every flip flop made by a politician we would be here all day. You are ignoring my larger points. I get that you hate Mormons. My larger point supports the thesis of this article. 2004 turnout numbers would have elected Romney. That is true. 1972 and 1984 -—if we had the same demographics then-—as we do today——Romney would have won in a similar landslide as in those two years. That is my basic point. But you have your other issues. Mormonism is an issue with you. Romney’s flip flops are an issue-—never mind that most politicians flip flop. I accept that fact. One rule of thumb, though, when a politician is flipping in YOUR direction-—never complain about it. When Ronald Reagan in mid life transitioned from an FDR Democrat to a Barry Goldwater Republican, we did not condemn him, we embraced him. I welcome all politicians to the pro-life cause when they come over. But you have your own axe to grind. I’m trying to look at the larger picture. MR was not the 100% pure ideological conservative some were looking for. But by ANY measure he was fantastically successful in life and would have made a VASTLY superior POTUS compared to what we’re stuck with now.

Romney was against DADT, Romney was always for full homosexualizing of the military and Boy Scouts.

No one hates Mormons, and Ronald Reagan never changed his position on abortion, he was always pro-life, but Romney has spent 5 years trying to create the myth that Reagan was “adamantly pro-choice.

What flip flop? Why don’t you read my posts to you?

Romney in 1994-””My position has been the same throughout my political career, and it goes back to the days of 1970,” he said. “There was a woman who was running for political office, U.S. Senate. She took a very bold and courageous stand in 1970, and that was in a conservative state. That was that a woman should have the right to make her own choice as to whether or not to have an abortion. Her name was Lenore Romney, she was my mom. Even though she lost, she established a record of courage in that regard.”

Romney in August of 2012:
PELLEY: Well, the platform as written at this convention for the Republicans does not allow for exceptions on abortion with regard to the health of the mother or rape or incest. Is that where you are?

ROMNEY: No. My position has been clear throughout this campaign. I’m in favor of abortion being legal in the case of rape and incest, and the health and life of the mother.

Do you know how ridiculous it is to describe a democrat of the 1940s making his last democrat presidential vote in 1948 and campaigning for republicans from 1952 on, to Mitt Romney (son of a 1968 GOP presidential candidate, and 1970 mother senatorial candidate) leaving the republican party because of Reagan and conservatism, and not voting for Reagan in the 1980s and becoming a democrat fund raiser and supporter?

This is the guy that you think fought the homosexual agenda and gay marriage as governor.

Here is an excerpt from a letter that he wrote in 1994.

As a result of our discussions and other interactions with gay and lesbian voters across the state, I am more convinced than ever before that as we seek to establish full equality for Americas gay and lesbian citizens, I will provide more effective leadership than my opponent. (Ted Kennedy)

I am not unaware of my opponent’s considerable record in the area of civil rights, or the commitment of Massachusetts voters to the principle of equality for all Americans. For some voters it might be enough for me to simply match my opponent’s record in this area. But I believe we can and must do better. If we are to achieve the goals we share, we must make equality for gays and lesbians a mainstream concern. My opponent cannot do this. I can and will.

We have discussed a number of important issues such as the Federal Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), which I have agreed to co-sponsor, and if possible broaden to include housing and credit, and the bill to create a federal panel to find ways to reduce gay and lesbian youth suicide, which I also support. One issue I want to clarify concerns President Clinton’s “don’t ask, don’t tell, don’t pursue” military policy. I believe that the Clinton compromise was a step in the right direction. I am also convinced that it is the first of a number of steps that will ultimately lead to gays and lesbians being able to serve openly and honestly in our nation’s military. That goal will only be reached when preventing discrimination against gays and lesbians is a mainstream concern, which is a goal we share.
