State Rep. Joe Mitchell, D-Mobile, had an outlandish exchange via email with a Jefferson County man who asked him and other lawmakers not to pass any laws that would restrict gun ownership.
Eddie Maxwell sent a mass email to state legislators late on Jan. 27, warning them that even attempting to introduce a gun control bill was, in his opinion, a violation of state law.
Mitchell responded from his public, ALHouse.gov email account an hour later, telling Maxwell: "Your folk never used all this sheit (sic) to protect my folk from your slave-holding, murdering, adulterous, baby-raping, incestuous, snaggle-toothed, backward-a**ed, inbreed (sic), imported criminal-minded kin folk."
"That’s not the type of reply I expect to receive from a state legislator," Maxwell replied on Feb. 11. "I’m not a racist and I find your reply to be especially offensive considering the position you hold."
Copies of the email exchange were provided to AL.com by state lawmakers who were included in the correspondence. The emails are printed below, edited only to remove the specific addresses.
Mitchell, who is black, did not respond to email and telephone messages from AL.com seeking comment this week. He told the Associated Press today that he was explaining that citizens who descended from slaves and were disenfranchised by the state constitution have a different view of history and the constitution than white citizens.
Maxwell, who is white, verified that he wrote the messages sent from his email address and said he was "surprised at the racial tones" in Mitchell's responses.........

Blacks don’t like whites. It is rather sad to watch the mental gymanstics white people engage in rather than accept that basic fact.

This is sad because Mitchell and Maxwell should be on the same page as to gun rights. Blacks were denied gun ownership in much of the South, a fact which enabled the Klan to attack them without much resistance.
While Mr. Mitchell described being assaulted by white racists during various civil rights marches, he cannot expect Mr. Maxwell to have suffered the same violence unless he was there too.
However, Mr. Maxwell’s description of having black friends in the military and afterwards, as well as the brave actions of his father, show that he is not a man of prejudice.
Re Mr. Mitchell’s history. Sounded very interesting but for him to blame the horrors on Maxwell’s people (who apparently weren’t involved in slavery or possibly not even in the US at the time), harms his position.
Just because someone didn’ march for something doesn’t mean that they don’t care.
However, the main issue of Maxwell’s email was about gun rights, which should be a colorblind topic.
When I was very young, my relatives in Austria were being shoot or gassed by the Nazis. They didn’t have any guns to protect themselves from evil.
If the southern Blacks had been allowed to own guns during the Reconstruction Period and even into the early 1900’s, the predations of the KKK would have been met with resistance and a lot of the atrocities would never have happened.
Both Mr. Maxwell and Mitchell have a lot in common once Mitchell stops playing the race card and realizes the a gun can be used to prevent or stop evil, which knows no single color.
Time to take a longer view of the subject and drop the race-baiting. Criminals don’t discriminate by color, only by the vulnerability of their victims.
I don’t have a problem with black people.
It’s the racist Negroes I have a problem with.
Unfortunately that is about 75% of the race.

Most whites do not have problems with blacks. Indeed, we don’t even think about them until they attack us, raid the treasury, insult us, corrupt the government and riot all as reported in the media.

Can somebody explain “imported”? I don’t get it and I pride myself in being completely up to date on racial slurs!
I’m guessing that his constituents think he is a genius.
