When the history of US politics in the early 21st century is written, two figures will stand out: Barack Obama and Sarah Palin.
The election of Mr. Obama to the highest elective office the first African-American to win the presidency did not necessarily signal a new era of post-racial politics. But coming just a generation after federal troops in the South (and a federal judge in Boston) were necessary to desegregate public schools, it was a huge milestone.
Sarah Palin was not the first woman to win a major political partys vice presidential nomination; that was US Rep. Geraldine Ferraro, Walter Mondales running mate way back in 1984.
But the presence of the former Alaska governor on the GOP ticket headed by Sen. John McCain in 2008 invigorated the party at the time, at least. And although they lost to Obama and Joe Biden, it wasnt the blowout that Mondale and Ferraro suffered against Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush.
Ferraro went on to relative political obscurity, twice losing Democratic Party primaries for the US Senate. Ms. Palin, on the other hand, was just getting started when the returns for the 2008 presidential race were being counted.
Over the next few years, she became a political force of nature stirring a tea party base that thronged to her appearances, scaring GOP incumbents deemed too willing to find common ground with Democrats, and building a very lucrative business that included (for one season, at least) her own reality TV show while launching one of her five children daughter Bristol on her own entertainment career.
Meanwhile, as with some other conservative ex-elected officials like Mike Huckabee, Palin was given a sinecure of sorts as a commentator for Fox News...

Is that supposed to be some sort of rebuttal? If so, you've failed miserably.
It's kind of hard to endorse a fellow politician without actually saying something about them, which Palin obviously did. Got any more killer rebuttals?
What you are trying to do is to destroy Sarah. You don’t have one good thing to say about her. I figure you are a wll educated feminist who thinks your way is the only way. BTW... what revival are you praying for? You don’t sound like a Christian in your effort to portray Sarah as someone other than who she is. What is Sarah to you? Someone to tear down? Someone you don’t want to see succeed? Your comments are negative and the more you comment, the more you sound like a liberal.
Then, don’t watch FOX. This problem is yours ~ not theirs. They have a mixed bag of folks.
Seems the ‘rats are still coming out in droves when SARAH’s name is mentioned with their same old clueless selves. After all this time that says they are unteachable. And it shows how they are still probably PO’D about our win in ‘10.
'Feminism'? What on earth are you talking about?
Sarah Palin was the Chief Executive of a U.S. state, and went on to be a vice presidential candidate. Before that she was the Mayor of her home town, and later, the Alaska state Oil and Gas Commissioner.
What 'ceiling' is left for her to break?
You appear to be trying to find any nit you can pick with Palin -- for what, I do not know.
Not just 'rats, but GOP-e bots. FR is still infested with them.
I don't watch it. If you actually read my post you would see that - and that confirms you saying things I never did. READ before you respond and YOUR thoughts are not mine! Don't make them appear as mine, either. TRY to be HONEST here and READ while you are on FR - that is what I/we expect - this is not a liberal site.
This problem is yours ~ not theirs. They have a mixed bag of folks.
WRONG. It's to my advantage that I don't watch it. I could be a dingbat like you who does watch it. And misrepresent what people say deliberately like you have. And talk about the black view while we are Americans first. Media is ALL about propaganda and you certainly ate your share. And don't throw up what you took in from the media - HERE!
If I had to make a wild stab at it, I’d guess that she’s quitting Fox to free her up for a run for the Senate — Mark Begich (D) is up for reelection in 2014, is pro-choice, and pro-drilling (for oil). Lisa Murkowski (R) is working on a law to negate the SCOTUS decision on Citizens United, which should make some FINOs happy. She’s not up until 2016, although, y’know, planes have been claiming famous people in Alaska since Will Rogers and Wiley Post.
Bad move on Fox’s part.
However, it would be hard to describe it as a generous contract
IOW, a contract designed to be declined.
What, are you worried about your place in hell?
I know, Palin speaks the words that humiliates her supporters - so someone else has to be the bad guy.
So do I. Bret faithfully and thoroughly covered Bengahzi. Had the MSM done the same, Obama might not have been able to steal the election quite so easily. Also, I always look forward to the end of his program to see what funny piece of tape he has chosen to air that day. It never fails to make me smile!
I see the 'rats and the GOP-E BOTS as one. They both hate conservatives/conservatism. They are America's enemy so they are mine, as well.
Good story and it makes sense.
But Fox hasn’t been attracting conservative viewers, and those are the people who tune in to see Sarah Palin.
She is better off without Fox News.
There is a lot of work that needs to be done before the next two elections. Organizing takes time and huge effort, but most of all, it requires the involvement of a charizmatic person like Sarah Palin.
Go away idiot and don't waste bandwidth on 'your agenda'. I want nothing from tainted you.
There is no one more afraid than you, wench, - afraid of conservatives and smart successful women.
Palin’s own words sure got her die-hard supporters all riled up, LOL.
She is the only one with the guts to step outside the ‘comfort zone.’ Third Party, please!
Oh yeah, and what would that be?
BTW, I you' totally ignoring the well-documented history between Palin and Ailes that I kindly provided up thread. Not sure what your problem is since its clear that Palin and Fox wanted to be rid of each other, and this contract renewal was the breaking point.
You came into that thread of thought all on your lonesome ~ and it would seem you would have read all the earlier posts so you'd know what the issues were that i raised, or that C.edmund raised ~ so i'm not putting words in your mouth ~ i asking you questions in line with the trend of the pre-existing conversation.
You want to comment you owe it to the other Freepers to go back up the line and find out what they were talking about. As it is you've become argumentative and accusatory about nothing anybody here was discussing.
BTW, Juan Williams has been appearing on the main broadcast channels as well as Channel 8 in the Washington DC broadcast area FOR DECADES. We know him whether we want to or not. He is currently playing the roll of mild mannered black man the big dogs let talk on TV. William Raspberry used to do that, and so did Carl Rowen.
Remember that book where the dude is out to kill the white whale? It starts 'call me ishmael' ~ well, this situation ~ with Juan is that he's out to conquer white TV, so 'call him token'!
