Is this the case of a broken heart? And, if so, whose? The Huffington Post reports that New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie declined attending a Sunday campaign event for Republican Presidential nominee and his onetime best political best bud former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. And from the quote from a Romney bigwig in the HP story, Team Romney is NOT happy:
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who was effusive in his praise of President Barack Obama when the two leaders toured damage from Hurricane Sandy last week, turned down a request by Mitt Romney to appear with him at a rally on Sunday night in Pennsylvania, The Huffington Post has learned.
Christies decision will only add to questions among Republicans about what the governor who is up for reelection a year from now is thinking, and why he went out of his way to heap praise on the president, and then refused to appear with Romney.
The Romney rally was held at a farm in Morrisville, Pa., not more than 20 minutes from Trenton, the New Jersey capital. The physical proximity of the event to New Jersey only added to questions in the Romney campaign about why Christie chose not to come.
You cant tell me he couldnt have gone over there for a night rally, a Romney campaign source told HuffPost.
Christie did, however, has had some more contact (telephone) with Obama since the storm and his official calls. Obama was playing Yenta the Matchmaker so Christie could talk to his longtime hero, singer and prominent New Jersey resident Bruce Springstein:
President Obama connected Bruce Springsteen and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie during a phone call from Air Force One Monday, TPM has confirmed. The New Jersey legend campaigned with the president in Wisconsin and Ohio on Monday.
Heres Christie talking about his talk with his hero:

Theres all kinds of speculation about what has gone on with Obama, Christie and Romney. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
1. Christie seemed genuinely in a state of grief over what happened to his state and he welcomed Obamas efforts.
2. Conservatives who started blasting him and demonizing him for cooperating with Obama like politicians for centuries of both parties have worked together in times of crisis made a big mistake. Im sure it was not lost on him.
3. He may have concluded a)Romney is going to lose b)its easier for him to run in 2016 if there is no Republican in the White House.
4. Team Romney was clearly behind a piece in The Politico that was not entirely complimentary to Christie saying he had been Romneys original first choice for V.P.
5. He may have been resentful about not being asked.
6. He TRULY has wanted to interact with Springstein.
7. He may shift that there is a hunger more than ever for many Americans to see people of both parties work together rather than constantly snipe at each other to score points. 8. Rupert Murdochs virtual threat to Christie may have caused the Governor to dig in his heels. To you, buddy!
It may be a story of two politically broken hearts.
are you series? I missed that one. what happened?
Nope.
So glad you ain’t Romney.
Very true.
What about he doesn’t care don’t you understand? He’s the Governor of NJ and he’s doing the job we elected him to do. He’s stated plainly he isn’t interested in Pres or VP and he’s running for Gov of NJ again when his term is up.
We Conservative Republicans like him and elected him for our State.
He’s human, far from perfect/pure, unlike some of you who seem to think you’re perfect. GMAFB. People like you wouldn’t have voted for him anyway and Thank Heavens you ain’t in NJ.
Again, Thank heavens you aren’t in NJ.
He doesn’t want or need your support. Those of us in NJ like him just fine.
Yes. This is what my husband said as well (the first part. the latter I knew.)
Thank you. But it’s useless.
I don’t get these supposedly conservative republicans and the vitriol directed at Christie.
Again, voice of reason in a thread seriously lacking reason.
Not I ...I saw this man as a weak rino from the beginning. He was not against the mosque building on the 9-11 site. That says all I need to know. and he is bigger than my bathtub which means he has some real deep anger issues.
OMG. Delusional.
would you people relax? Of course Christie can not go- his state is still a disaster area from a hurricane
look even if every move christie made was the right one for the love of nj, he just got dealt a bad hand, because no one wants anything to do with him.
And as he’s stated numerous times, that’s what his job is. It’s other people, and the media, who can’t seem to get that.
How fitting. The most overrated Republican politician of the 21st Century idolizes the most overrated musician of the 20th.
BS! A very small, yet vocal minority on FR, hate him. They’ve hated him since he was elected Gov of NJ. He’s the “new romney” since the blatant hate of Romney isn’t cool anymore on FR.
The people of NJ still want something to do with him and that is who matters. That’s who he cares about and has stated numerous times.
at last someone gets it. being governor means being above politics sometimes, like during disasters. he knows that O
will let politics affect FEMA resource allocation and he doesn’t want his constituents to suffer because of grandstanding.
Overrated by whom? The losers on this FR thread? The same people who claimed he was a lib? The same people claiming he is now?
TYVM but we’ll keep Christie here in NJ, where he has stated plainly he wants to be, to govern our state.
It’s sad I’m NOT shocked by the vitriol directed at Christie here at “conservative, Christian, FR.” It sounds just like what the dems/libs at my workplace say about him everyday (they hate him because he’s a conservative republican). I’m a Conservative Republican in Education and posts like yours is what I hear daily at work. So you and others can pat yourselves on the back that you alienated one of your own.
Yay.
