Mexican actor and soap star Eduardo Verastegui has teamed up with two conservative groups to attack President Obama for his stands on abortion and immigration.
In doing so, the groups hope to reduce his support in the Latino community, Politico reported Friday.
The Latino Partnership for Conservative Principles and the Susan B. Anthony List are using Verastegui in a robocall and Web campaign that encourages Latino voters to support Mitt Romney.
The calls will target voters in six states: Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico, Virginia, North Carolina and Florida.
Obama's support in the Latino community overwhelms that of Romney, 73 percent to 21 percent, in a recent poll by Latino Decision.
At the same time, Latinos are slightly more opposed to abortion than the general population.
I saw this guy’s movie “Bella,” which was a great pro-life film. He is a former boy-band star from Mexico, who I understand made a conscious decision to limit his work to projects that “send the right message,” and I think that’s pretty awesome. Here’s a quote from Wiki about him:
“Film Bella that stars Verástegui and first film of Metanoia Films, co-founded by Verástegui was considered by critics as an “anti-abortion” film.
Verástegui is a pro-life advocate, through the organization “Mantle of Faith”. Verástegui recounts an anecdote about his beliefs: supposedly, he was offered a role in a certain film and had gone to an abortion clinic to “research his role”, but, shocked by what he saw, he dropped the idea of taking part in the film altogether. On his way out, he saw a pro-life rally that introduced him to a Hispanic couple who were going to the clinic for an abortion. The campaigners offered that Verástegui try to convince the couple by talking to them in their native Spanish. He says that, recognizing him from his telenovela roles on Mexican television, they reconsidered their decision and went home without going ahead with the abortion. Immediately after their child was born, they called him to tell him the good news and thanking him and asking for his permission to name the child Eduardo after him. He also made a point of meeting “little Eduardo” weeks later.[6][8]
In 2008, he released a long video message denouncing the high rate of abortion in Hispanic communities in the United States and speaking out loud about alleged targeting of the Hispanic communities with pro-choice messages by the Barack Obama campaign during the presidential race.[9]
Verástegui also took part in the 2008 campaign for passing of California Proposition 8 releasing his own messages in Spanish language in support of the “Yes on 8” campaign encouraging the Hispanic population in California to vote for the passing of the “California Marriage Protection Act” known as “Prop 8” calling for “Elimination of Rights of Same-Sex Couples to Marry”. He was quoted on the message saying: “As a Latino man proud of my community, I feel I have been called to fight for traditional marriage between a man and a woman”.”
My kind of guy. If there were more stars like this guy, I wouldn’t hate Hollywood as much as I do...
What about homosexual marriage, many Hispanics are against that as well and it’s another Obama flip flop.
Latinos are many things to many of us here on FR, but ALL Latinos dislike cowards.
That is bad news for Benghazi-Coward Obama.
Should’ve added NJ to list. Of course
Powers out. Is it in Spanish ?
Lots of Italians have Spanish sounding names who get annoyed of calls in Spanish though.
I’ve seen Spanish, Indian , African, and Muslim support for Romney .
Not everyone supports who they’re expected to support and don’t consider
their private opinions public domain.
Ricardo Montalban would approve!
Thanks 2ndDivisionVet.
We should never cede the majority latino vote to the dirty Dims. Teach and demonstrate conservatism and enough will come over to the right side—and with gusto.
Semper Fi to all of them from this old Army guy.
The rich, Corinthian leather vote!
Excellent. The conservative movement is the natural home for Hispanics who support free enterprise, the ability to work to care for their families and create wealth, who support traditional values and want a better life for their children than they would have in most Hispanic native countries.
Immigrants of all kinds came here because they want to be Americans, not because they were seeking handouts, gay marriage, or a culture that robs their kids of their innocence.
Yup. And the Latino women do not tolerate Cowards.
I know many Puerto Ricans
In ‘08 many of them voted for Barry because of the ‘historic’ nature of the vote - none of them are voting for him this time.
Granted, Most of them are “conservatives” CINO’s that went with the media’s ‘finally we can all get along’ vote in ‘08
They figured out quick they screwed up
You know, many Mexican’s are hard working family men.
I don’t want to see them become lazy, dependant on the state, on the dole and zombies for THAT party.
Don’t let them tempt you like a child molester in a car with the lure of sweets...
you’ll be sorrrrrry.
Can’t wait to send Obama on de plane to his fantasy island in Hawaii!
This one is without clothes.
Much better without!
Devote RC
I totally agree =)
My wife is Cuban and makes me look like a hippie. I have some libertarian leanings.
