Gingrich Campaign Plots Against Romney ("..strategists admitted he was the most qualified..")
NewsMax ^ | March 15, 2012 | Matt Towery

It was unbelievable: As soon as Newt Gingrich failed to win both Alabama and Mississippi in the GOP race for president, most members of the mainstream media and political strategists with whom I talked readily admitted, off the record, that he was the most qualified among the Republican candidates to serve as president.

Now these are objective pros that have been around presidential politics for years. I have no doubt they were telling me the truth because these folks only tell you this stuff when it is relatively clear that the candidate is no longer a viable alternative.

The Gingrich campaign is pushing the concept that, by staying in the contest, Speaker Gingrich could help take away enough delegates to deprive Mitt Romney the numbers needed to have the GOP nomination locked up by the time the candidates reach the convention in Tampa, Fla.

Obviously, as a lifelong friend of Gingrich's, I am not going to argue with their decision to press forward. Their frustration is that their candidate knows more about foreign policy and defense matters in his little finger than the other two leading candidates know in their entire body.

It is likely they find it incredible that a man who could outdebate Barack Obama in virtually any format is now in this predicament. I don't blame them if they feel this way.

But the reality is that no camp agrees with any other camp's delegate math. Romney, who has spent a fortune to amass his delegates, believes the numbers suggest that he will have no problem locking the nomination up by or before the last contested state. And that may well be true....

I can't afford to send him any more money, but I may pawn something to do so. I took an oath in 1977 and no one has ever said it was cancelled. I'm sure Senator Santorum is a very nice man and could probably learn to be a good president after a few years. We don't have that luxury.

At this point I’m in board with Newt and I will be more supportive, but Mitt Romney will never have my support.

Time for a reality check, 2nd D.Vet.

Gingrich-Santorum= Newt’s excellent adventure but road to nowhere.

Gingrich+Santorum= Romney defeat and a possible cabinet post for Newt.

Yes, we know Newt knows more than anyone else in the room most of the time, he’s shown that in debate after debate, but there’s more than that to winning elections.

Newt has very bad unfavorables with general voters and loses in 1on1 matchups vs Obama compared with Romney and Santorum. He’s bee “borked” and “palinized” and “newtered” by the press, who still brings up a phony story from 1979 (you know the one).

That ‘electability gap’ is the #1 reason newt faded and will not win the nomination.

Newt aand ron Paul at this point has some other agenda besides winning.

Newt as much as said today that if this thing goes to convention that none of the current candidates will be the nominee.

It’s Newt for me, or no one else. Romney and Santorum don’t stand a chance against what’s coming. I do wish people would take this election more seriously.

If that is his goal, then he should probably drop out of the winner take all contests. If he stays in and splits the not-Miit vote with Santorum, then Romney will liklely win those states. If he chooses to contest those states, then we will know it is all about his ego.

Given that newt is 3rd in delegate count its an admission that he knows he wont be the nominee, and his agenda is really about stopping Romney.

Interesting.

That ‘electability gap’ is the #1 reason newt faded and will not win the nomination.

Plus the fact that Newt has managed to win only his home state and one neighboring state whereas his opponents have won 24 of them.

Newt agenda is to deny Mittens a win on the first few roll call votes in Tampa.

If Mittens loses those then is a brand new ball game. The Delegates are released to vote for anyone.

Longshot hell yea but its possible.

I do wish people would take this election more seriously.

We are and that is why Santorum is winning. We want a moral America. Get morals and you find the economy will go along with it. Why you can’t understand that is beyond me.

What are you talking about? Is Santorum’s morality going to somehow rub off on the whole country? Is he going to wave a magic wand and make everybody moral?

We don’t need a saint-in-chief. We need a competent secular president with the knowledge and ability to deconstruct and roll back the federal leviathan.

Hold on a minute. So what you are saying is that Obama is not having any affect with the gays getting infested throughout the country. That abortions are even more available. That people are lazier because of the long term benefits. The President has a BIG influence on how the country goes morally. I am SHOCKED you don’t see this or understand that.

Facebook post: Sarah Palin

Talk is cheap Sarah, really cheap. Where were you and your voice when Romney was destroying Mr. Newt? Where were you when we called for your help and your voice to stand behind the most brilliant man in this race? You have voiced your support in little ways, but never with a full endorsement. Where is your courage? We all understood when you did not jump into the race for WE THE PEOPLE because your family came first. We understand your hesitancy in doing the right thing because of what the media will say and do, and how it would affect your family. Well, they are continuing to destroy you anyway, you might as well jump head first into the fight.

WE THE PEOPLE know that our country will not survive with Obama as our president for four more years. Romney is a fine man, but part of the same Republican establishment you have been fighting for years (look at his supporters). Santorum was part of that same Republican establishment for all the years he was in the Senate, and his “so called” conservative voting record tells us all we need to know about how he will lead the country. He even endorsed Romney against McCain. How will he cut the very programs that gave us the economy we have now, thanks in no part, to the current Republican establishment.

Mr. Newt is the only candidate left in this race that loves this country as much as you do, and can save it through his bold energy plan, his new 21st Century Contract With America, along with his plans to cut spending, cut government, and clean up the financial mess that this President and the Republican establishment (McCain included) go us into. Breitbart stood up for you, when not one of those Republican “eunuchs” would, remember? You say you can influence the country with your words without a title.

“Brietbart was fearless at a time when too many people are afraid and are retreating. Courage inspires courage. Fearlessness emboldens others to follow your lead.” Did you mean those words? If so, it is time you showed the same courage and come out of the shadows and fight for Mr. Newt. NOW is the time, or we will suffer through four more years of the hell that this President is creating.
