I moved to Kentucky from Seattle a few months ago. A baptist ex-pastor friend of mine told me that although all the Baptist churches here are pretty much packed (and there are a lot of them), the ignorance is staggering.
He said that when he started pastoring a church here, most of the congregation, lifelong churchgoers, did not know the difference between the old and new testaments.

I've found this to be true in MANY different 'brands' of churches.
