Eichenbaum discusses 'Liberty' with Young Americans for Liberty

Cullowhee, November 10, 2011. U.S. Congressional candidate Dr. Dan Eichenbaum spoke before the Western Carolina Chapter of Young Americans for Liberty and other political science students Tuesday evening at the AK Hinds University Center in Cullowhee. Eichenbaum began with a brief overview on various forms of government and why the founding fathers chose to establish a republic in America. “Our government was carefully formed to protect our Natural Law rights,” Eichenbaum said, “but beginning in 1913, the government has been taking your rights away from you and stealing the value of your money.” Students listened as Eichenbaum explained, “On the one hand, we have the progressives who believe in central economic planning, wealth re-distribution, class warfare, and personal dependency. And on the other side are fiscal conservatives who believe in limited government, property rights, and a free market. We are borrowing money from China to give to the United Nations, who in turn gives it to China . . . while we are paying interest on that borrowed money—not very smart is it?” In response to a question from a student regarding the right to food, Eichenbaum stated that natural law rights do not impose an obligation on anyone else. “Your first question should be to ask, ‘At whose expense?’ Government can't give you anything that it does not first take away from someone else.“ Eichenbaum stated, “When citizens are forced to work against their will for the benefit of another, they are no longer free. Private property rights and the free market economy are the basis of freedom, and when those are no longer valued in our society, we will have no more freedom. It is under our watch that you and my children and grandchildren will inherit a future of liberty and prosperity, or slavery to debt. Only the first should be acceptable to any one of us.” Eichenbaum advocates limited government, self-determination, free-market economy, balanced budgets, and the right to keep and bear arms. He believes that the desire for long tenure in elected office is the root cause of the irrational legislative outcomes to which we are continuously subjected. Eichenbaum self-limited his term in office by signing a financially, legally binding contract with the Alliance for Bonded Term Limits.

Eichenbaum graduated from the Yale School of Medicine, Cum Laude, served as a commissioned Naval officer during the Vietnam era, and has been a practicing physician and successful small business owner for 35 years. He and his wife Rhonda live outside Murphy on a small horse farm.
