If a Republican won, they'd probably be a 1-termer due to the RATs either redistricting the seat to make it safe RAT, or eliminating it outright. That being said, it would be great PR for us ("GOP captures Anthony Weiner's former seat") to counter balence the RATS gloating about winning NY-26 and falsely claiming it was a repuditation of the GOP's policies. They'd really hate having a geninue Republican winning a seat based in the heart of NYC. Also, I'm pretty sure we could elect a decent conservative who would vote reliably on important bills, and every votes helps going into November 2012.

We should pretty much use their NY-26 formula in reverse. I seriously think a pro-Palestianian leftist on the Green Party line or similar third party would divide the RAT vote enough to give us an opening. The district is about 40% Republican, more than enough to win a 3-way race. We need to make sure there's more than one visible liberal candidate on the ballot. So far, I haven't seem any serious effort to make this happen. I'm sure someone can be wooed into running as a third party candidate.

McCain got 45% of the vote in the district to Obama’s 55, and Weiner’s opponent got 40% in 2010. It could very well go GOP under the right circumstances. If there is a third party bid from the left, that would increase the odds of a GOP victory tremendously.
