Why is Herman Cain Running?
Nerds 4 Cain ^ | 6-8-11

Posted on 06/08/2011 8:38:23 PM PDT by Brookhaven

I ask him to tell me the story that moved the women of southwest Iowa to tears—the secret sign that got him to keep running.

“Nineteen-ninety-nine is when my first granddaughter was born,” he says. “Her name is Celena.” Cain was on a long trip and thought he might miss the birth, but he arrived at the hospital in the nick of time. “As soon as I looked at [Celena’s] face,” he continues, “the first thought that went through my mind was, What do I do to make this a better world?”

“I didn’t know what that was going to mean, Bryan. I didn’t know exactly what I was supposed to do. I didn’t say then, ‘I ought to run for president.’”

About a month ago, Cain was with his friend Joel, heading out on another grueling presidential-style exploratory jag. “He was taking me to the airport to go do another meet-and-greet somewhere in Iowa or New Hampshire. I don’t remember which one it was. And on the way to the airport, I said to my friend, ‘Joel, have I lost my mind to think about running for president? … I’m tired! You should be taking me home!’”

Then, like a bolt from heaven, Cain got the sign. “Five seconds later,” he says, “Celena sent me a text. ‘Love you, Pa Pa. You’re awesome.’ That’s all it said. Five seconds later.”

“That’s when I told Joel, ‘Take me on to the airport.’”

She lost me in 2010, when she put loyalty to John McCain over loyalty to the Tea Party and its values. We will dearly pay for that for six years.

Try to imagine a different 2010, one where the 2008 presidential ticket being at each other's throats, was the dominant, 24 hour news story, and the revelation that the republican ticket had been a terrible, cynical, sham, deceiving all of the loyal republican voters, was the image of the republican party for the 2010 election cycle.

McCain would have still won his safe seat, but the conservative movement would not have made one of the most successful national electoral sweeps in history.

Doesn’t hold water when you consider she didn’t have to endorse anyone in that race. Nice try though.

First, that isn’t what the polls show.

Second, of course. The most popular Governor in America, a politician that has always been beloved and was the most popular official in America with 80,89,93% approval ratings is a uniter, a vote getting person, once Palin is the official nominee, and is running a 800 million dollar sales campaign she will win.

Let me ask you, is that your actual expert political analysis, that 60% of voters will not be voting republican if Governor Palin is our nominee?

You ignored the reality and the facts, not endorsing McCain would have destroyed our 2010 election, the media would have been at those two non stop, and the 2008 ticket would be mocked as a sham and a scam, and the republican party as a party at war with itself and full of phony cynics that were lying and presenting a false front to it’s naive, fooled voters in 2008.

That would be proof that the Obama victory was a godsend, and a blessing since the republicans were unstable and divided internally.

And McCain would still have retained his “Senate seat for life”, and the democrats would still have hundreds of offices that they don’t now, and Romney would have no serious competitor.

What is unbelievable is you thinking the white hot hatred that the media had against Palin, and their determination to keep her from remaining in politics, would have led them to not notice that Palin was not endorsing the other half of her presidential ticket, for him to remain as a Senator, and that they would simply move on, and not use that opening as a club to derail any gains the republicans hoped to make in that election.

McCain/Palin would have been the story of the 2010 cycle.

Believe in your theory, as I know you must. I don't.

Just wondering, is she endorsing his position on Libya?

That doesn’t have anything to do with my post, I have no idea about that.

You know, I didn't mention that I think it's shameful that you credit the entire 2010 election tsunami to Sarah Palin.

You have no idea about her position on Libya?

I didn’t do that, and no I’m not up on every one’s position on Libya, have you become angry at something?

"McCain would have still won his safe seat, but the conservative movement would not have made one of the most successful national electoral sweeps in history."

"the democrats would still have hundreds of offices that they don’t now"

"they would simply move on, and not use that opening as a club to derail any gains the republicans hoped to make in that election."

Your words. You credit the 2010 results to Palin's endorsement of McCain.

Well, that is an interesting way to look at that, very creative, but not exactly true.

I pointed out that the falling apart of those two would have changed the 2010 election and cost us hundreds out of the almost 700 hundred pickups we made, the media would have beat the republicans with the non ending story, using it to dominate the news, and hurt what turned out to be one of the great election sweeps of history.

And McCain would still have retained his seat.

Don’t be a child, I’m pointing out a thing that would have derailed it, a tool that the media would have used to weaken it. You can’t think of many blunders that could hurt us in 2012, that you hope the pros don’t make?

And McCain would still have his seat.

What generates so much anger and hostility in you about this?

Anger and hostility? Child?

The name-calling is childish in itself. And the delusions that lead you to assert I am angry and hostile are, well, weirdly humorous.

You need to sell someone else on your Palin-Endorsed-McCain-Cause-She-Had-To spiel. I have healthier things to do than continuing to attempt to reason against such nonsense.

And, yes, I do know that you will get the last word in. lol

I saw you get snarky and short about the ticket not turning on itself, but I never saw you reason against it.
