The Club for Growth has endorsed former Texas Solicitor General Ted Cruz (R), becoming the second national conservative organization this week to back him in the crowded GOP primary for retiring Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison's (R) seat.
"Ted Cruz will fight for economic liberty and will be a stalwart defender of the U.S. Constitution," Club for Growth President Chris Chocola said in a Thursday statement. "He will be an ally for other pro-growth Senators and Texans will be proud to have him representing them in Congress. Club Members will do everything they can to see that Ted Cruz is elected as Texas's next Senator."
Cruz already scored an endorsement from FreedomWorks PAC, former Majority Leader Dick Armey's organization, earlier this week. He also is backed by Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah), a conservative with tea party backing who defeated Sen. Bob Bennett (R-Utah) in the 2010 primary.

I had expected these groups to rally around Michael Williams. Obviously, Ted Cruz is on the upswing. There is talk that Dan Patrick will enter the race, leaving conservatives with an embarrassment of riches.
I’m glad that there is a runoff.
The Club for Growth rocks.
I worry about this candidate on immigration.
Cruz has left virtually no footprints in Austin or anywhere else on public policy while in office. Patrick has fought the good fight for life, for controlling our borders, for controlling spending, and for 2nd Amendment rights, to name a few. Patrick has proved he is not merely a conservative, but he is also one that is willing to play offense.
I suspect that Cruz (like Williams) is being pushed forward by those really “smart” Rs who think that we need to ignore substance for tribal membership in order to win.
Former Railroad Commissioner Michael Williams, who announced his intention back in January to seek the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Kay Bailey Hutchison, is likely to drop out of that race and instead run for a newly created congressional seat in House District 33, which contains his hometown of Arlington, sources tell the Tribune.
Thanks for the update. Does it mean that Dan Patrick is in or that conservatives are rallying around Ted Cruz?

I think it is still fluid at the present time. How it all shakes out is yet to be determined, imo. The Legislature has been called into special session to finish things like redistricting and budgets. Who knows at this stage of the game.
Michael Williams will be our new Senator.
“Does it mean that Dan Patrick is in or that conservatives are rallying around Ted Cruz?”
Didn’t Patrick withdraw the TSA grope bill in collusion with that jerk Dewhurst?
What has this Ted Cruz done to warrant somebody’s endorsement?
It’s still early, but right now I lean toward Williams.
The other Williams (Rodger) will be a strong contender and has my support.

Here’s the full story on Dan Patrick, David Dewhurst, and the TSA.

It appears almost certain that Michael Williams will switch to a U.S. House race from a CD based in Arlington, and if so he will have my support. I will also give Ted Cruz my unabashed support for the Senate race. I hated to have to pick between Williams and Cruz for the Senate race, and I’m glad that it appears that both can go to Washington and get our country moving in the right direction. I just hope that Dan Patrick doesn’t jump into the Senate race now.
The thing is that mega-wealthy David Dewhurst will probably run and spend his megabucks, possibly breaking Jon Corzine’s record. Fortunately, Texas has a runoff.
Is David Dewhurst bad? I know 0 about him outside of him being Lt. Gov..
You mean “The General” isn’t going to win? /s
Ah, ok...gotcha! Thank you for the info.
