Mike Huckabee withdrawal helps Sarah Pailin get back in the race for president
Irish Central ^ | May 13, 2011 | Patrick Roberts

Mike Huckabee's expected departure from the Republican race for president opens the door for Sarah Palin again.

Palin has gone quiet after the media sizzle around her died and transferred to Donald Trump.

But with Trump fading faster than a losing 'Apprentice' competitor and Huckabee now looking like he will drop out, Palin is suddenly back in this race if she wants.

Huckabee, with his strong evangelical roots, was a natural to win Iowa and Palin enjoys a comparable level of support among those voters.

Contrast that with Mitt Romney who is held in deep suspicion in the first caucus state, not only because of his moderate politics but also his Mormon religion.

That only leaves Palin as the evangelical choice as none of the other contenders have seriosu traction with those voters.

A win in Iowa could galvanize the Palin campaign heading into New Hampshire in January.

That would be a turn up for the books, but with the Republican race so volatile anything can happen.

Mitt Romney will not be the clear front runner if and when Huckabee announces he is stepping down, but I have believed for some time that he has a very soft core of support.

As usual 'savior' canddiates such as Mitch Daniels are being spoken about as well as Jeb Bush but I feel the winner will come form the present field.

Which is why I think Palin is so intriguing once again.

She has differentiation and a hard core base of support something no other candidate really has with Huckabee out.

I think she is back in with a real chance to win.

Me, too. I want to get going on raising that $2 million dollars while I still have my health, such as it is.

If she doesn’t run, she will be a FADED FORCE and a coward, whom nobody gives a rat’s rear about. This is her time and if she doesn’t win, that’d be understandable. If she doesn’t run, that won’t be acceptable.

Have you ever had yourself, your husband and your children attacked and mocked by thousands of reporters, bloggers, academics, TV talk show hosts, celebrities and gossip columnists? Have you ever had your place of worship torched by an arsonist while women and children were in the building? Have you ever had a trashy novelist move into the house next door to you, which overlooks your young daughter's bedroom, for a whole summer while he “researched” you and your family? Have you ever received thousands upon thousands of death threats, many thought to be credible by law enforcement? Have you ever had dozens of stalkers? Have you ever had individuals hack into your e-mail searching for dirt? Have you ever had an entire major political party and a size-able portion of the other one searching for ways to do you harm? Have you ever had your every move and utterance picked apart, dissected and spun into half-truths and outright falsehoods? Have you been accused of racism for criticizing our president? Have you ever been accused of complicity in murder for using your first amendment rights? It will be a miracle if she does run, and while I hope & pray that she does, would you blame her if she doesn't? What so-called “man” among the potential GOP candidates could have withstood an onslaught of this magnitude? I can't name one. Can you?

Let’s hope Romney will follow Huckabee out the door.

I second that!

Just a GREAT post ‘Vet! What this young lady has been put through is unconscionable. She has the guts and fortitude of any 50 of the ‘conservatives’ combined who supposedly lead our party. I pray for Sarah and her family’s continued safety.

It depends on how it is done, Huckabee has juice.

Romney’s people we are familiar with and we know they are establishment liberals, but Huckabee supporters we are having a difficult time pinning down, and knowing who they are, and who they will support, or how they think.

If Huckabee does in fact announce that he will not be seeking the presidency, it will be a great day for Conservatives and promising for 2012. As a resident of AR, I ‘survived’ Huck’s terms as our governor and have no misconceptions about his true political ideals. He is no Conservative. In fact, we have a Democrat governor currently who, in large part, is much more conservative than Huckabee could ever dream.

His departure will help us keep the attention of the single-issue voters who vote based solely on their pro-life stance. While I applaud the position, a pro-life candidate who is a wet noodle in all other aspects of a Conservative agenda will not do anything to help the situation which we are currently facing in this great nation. Palin would fit the bill much better than Huck. I’m not going all in for her yet - I want to see how the field shapes up and want to learn some deeper policy positions of all contenders. But, I like the way the field is rounding out: Provided that Huckabee sits on the bench and, at the appropriate time, provides an endorsement to assist in keeping the single-issue Repubs. involved. Along with Palin, I find Herman Cain to be somewhat intriguing.

I don't fathom how the author's article perceives any equivalency between Sarah Palin and Mike Huckabee.

In my opinion, there's no overlap at all between Sarah Palin's supporters and those backing the Huckster. Consequently the starting premise of the article is flawed.

Sarah Palin and Mike Huckabee are evangelicals, and evangelicals are an important subset of Iowa Republicans. Huckabee is a former pastor. But Jimmy Carter had that Baptist lay leader patina back in 1976, and look where the propensity of many evangelical voters to vote on that basis - as if Jerry Ford had been a moral leper - got us.

Sarah Palin is a true patriotic Constitutional Conservative with a solid track record and impeccable credentials. Huckabee is a big government, tax and spend nanny stater with a tarnished record
. . . and I (as an evangelical) see Palin as a far better defender of the Constitution - and of Declaration of Independence principles - than Mike Huckabee.
Neither being perfect. Sarah does have her Title IX thing . . . and that might not be insignificant. But who understands the economy and energy better than Sarah?

You need to put those two letters into context with a link to what happened after clemency was granted to certain parties.

What Huckabee did in that instance is beyond reproach.

And thank you for your steadfast support of Mrs. Palin.

I’m not sure she was ever “out”. It seems it should be a bump though, along with Trump’s probable departure Sarah’s “I’ll take my time” attitude may pay off.

huckster and Palin have no connection other than both work for fox. One is a Conservative while the other is a socialist, murder releasing, fat assed, nepotistic, lying sumbich... the other is a beautiful woman... powerful in mind and action... a believer in American Exceptionalism... and very dangerous to the leftards..
