American Way: Barack Obama is no shoo-in for re-election in 2012
The London Telegraph ^ | April 2, 2011 | Toby Harnden

Posted on 04/02/2011 8:12:19 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Washington is the city of conventional wisdom. Denizens of the District of Columbia cling to a prevailing notion for dear life even when all evidence begins to point in another direction. Then, quick as a flash, the mood shifts and another idea takes hold.

So it has been with President Barack Obama and his 2012 re-election chances. Back in November, when his party was on the receiving end of the worst electoral pummelling since 1948, Obama was a dead cert one-term president, a Jimmy Carter with bells on heading for oblivion.

A compromise tax deal, the ratification of an arms treaty and the repeal of the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell gay ban in the military later and Obama was once more a colossus sitting astride the American body politic mocking those idiot Republicans queuing up to lose in 2012.

Despite Obama’s halting ambivalence over what to do with Libya, the continued unpopularity of his signature healthcare reform and an ailing economy, the Washington cognoscenti remains convinced. Altogether now: Obama’s a shoo-in. You hear it again and again.

Last week, however, a Quinnipiac poll found that Obama had the worst re-election figures of his presidency with 48 percent of voters disapproving and just 42 percent approving of his performance. In an election now against a generic Republican – any opponent – he would lose.

“Ah-ha!” say those in the know. “He won’t be running against a generic Republican. He’ll be running against someone with flaws, who can be painted as an extreme right-wing nut case.”

Given that 82 percent of Washingtonians voted for Obama in 2008 (the figure was probably much higher among journalists) this is standard fare in these parts....

Most everyone I know that voted for bambi do not like him anymore. Whether or not that will translate into a vote for the republican remains to be seen, if it only results in not voting at all for prez, that will be good enough.

He is definitly NOT going to ride the giant wave he rode on in 08, the first black prez feel good I am oh so tolerant vote will not be happening again.

This is informed speculation on my part based on historical precedent. I’ve observed what causes empires and polities undergo dissolution and am simply applying it to the United States as it continues to suffocate under unrelenting leftward push by the statists and bureaucrats.

Reading Gibbon is a good place to start and also observe what happened to the Soviet Union. There are many other historical examples.

“Obama will spend a billion dollars to garner 40% of the vote like Carter did.”

From your lips to God’s ear. I just fear that Acorn and SEIU will step up their extensive voter fraud to get the numbers necessary for BHO.

But IF we’re blessed enough to get one more chance from God - b. hussein obama will become a footnote in history, POTUS no more, and hopefully, in disgrace (even prison?) for the massive scam and treason he has perpetrated on America.

Content doesn’t matter.

America is so dumbed down and superficial that appearances and sound bites are all that matter, the media is in love with him, he has a race card to play and the racist vote by many minorities that will support him for that reason alone, he has the incumbent advantage, he’s still regarded as the cool and hip candidate by kids in college etc and he has name recognition. Not so sure if he’s done.

We live in a day and age where speeches and appearances matter more than actions.

“This aint the environment that is going to get this stiff elected like last time. All his easy roads are blocked.”

Let’s hope and pray the landscape stays the same a year and a half from now. I think it’s going to depend, in large part, on how all our newly-elected legislators and governors do between now and then. This is our last shot to get it right.

:)

They will tell you who to support after they internally pick the candidate for you, as with McCain, Dole, etc......... The RNC is a good ole boys club where those who paid their dues can run.

Those inspiring to the base won’t get nominated. Reagan was a fluke and believe it or not, he wasn’t the party pick. Ever see the video of where they wanted to turn his microphone off and him yelling “I paid for this mic!”? I can’t find that video on Youtube or elsewhere but I remember seeing it years ago. Reagan was too “radical” and “unelectable” according to the party.

We had a RINO run in PA who turned out to be a Conservative. All is not lost.

I like the way you think. If and when the socialist rump begs to be readmitted to the United States, I think the rest of us should strongly suggest they apply for admission to Canada. I’d gladly trade them all for Alberta.

Giving Obama the presidency was like handing the keys to the family car to an irresponsible kid. You find out he has spent the minimum learning how the drive and used his charm to talk his way into passing the driver’s test. You learn that he rides along with buddies who have a record of reckless behavior.

When his good buddy tells you that allowing him to drive the family car will be a “transformational experience,” will you listen to your neighbor, Sarah, tell you that the only thing he will transform will be the condition of your car?

Will you get that phone call at 3:00 in the morning telling you that your son was driving drunk and wrecked the car in a ditch?

What will you say when Sarah tells you “I told you so?”

Agree. Most of the nation follows Charlie Sheen and Snookie. The fact that we let anyone vote will lead to the death of our republic.

DNC=RNC=DNC

Yea, exactly.
The RNC will never support a Conservative. They are only interested in Lefty Pubs.

He will cheat.
The Dems will cheat, just like last time.
Felons will vote.
Dead people will vote Dem.
Illegal Aliens will vote for Obama.
Black Panthers will chase away whitey at the polls while calling them racists, knowing full well that they will get away with it.

The left-wing media, academia and even schoolteachers will spout Obamunist propaganda and call anyone who even peeps a negative word about this clown a racist, birther, teabagger or some other reprehensible epithet...

Just like it all went the last time.

I think we would have been, or very, very close.

Hillary! and Obama are ideological soulmates, their only difference is style. Where Obama has crammed through as much as he could during his first time and risk losing a 2nd, I think Hillary would have been content to draw the same agenda out over two terms.
