If Sarah Palin is going to run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012, she is sure going about it her own way.
A conservative TV idol and household name, the former Alaska governor sees little need to behave like a traditional presidential candidate.
Palin has been nowhere to be seen recently in the early voting states of Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina, while potential rivals scour in search of staff and supporters.
Instead, Palin has relied on her appearances on Fox News and often caustic comments on her Facebook page to rally support for conservative causes and perhaps prepare the ground for a run against Democratic President Barack Obama.
"She's certainly feisty and doesn't think that the normal rules and the normal conventional wisdom apply to her," said Republican strategist Charlie Black.
A relative unknown who burst onto the national scene as John McCain's running mate in 2008, Palin is adored by millions of conservative Republicans.
But she is a polarizing figure who is behind in national polls compared with other possible candidates like Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee.
Last week, Palin visited India and Israel to beef up her foreign policy credentials and dispel criticism she would be a lightweight on the world stage.
She skipped an opportunity to speak to conservatives in Washington recently at a conference that most would-be Republican presidential contenders used to test the waters.
Unlike the others in the Republican field, she is not advanced in planning, saying there is plenty of time to organize a campaign if she wants to do so.
"I don't think that there needs to be a rush still to get out there as a declared candidate," she said in New Delhi. "I think there's still plenty of time...

At this stage they take in pledges for support. Romney has a strong lead because of the large Corporations backing him.
Pawlenty is also getting pledges. So is the Huckster and Palin.
Well, that certainly qualifies as impolite, doesn’t it?
He shouldn’t have said that.
That, by itself would have just got him in trouble or maybe suspended, but it was a history of such things that finally did it, IMO. I don’t know that, but I’m guessing.
You do set the standard high before the race even starts, don’t you? Let’s hope she can live up to your unlimited expectations.
And, I'll bet he's pleased as punch that I'm here to say that on his behalf. ;-)

The pisser will be back, believe it. He has been very much involved in this forum over the years.
Look, they even brought Willie Green back. (Just my gut feeling)
“...she was not getting much financial support from Big Corporations.”
The fascists understand Constitutional Government is better for We the People than them....don’t look for them just “not supporting her”....where do you think all her negative press originates?
You are exactly right......I have always strongly believed this. And let’s be sure to be painstakingly civil towards each other in the process.
It only helps our cause all the more.
I have no more information about what she may do, as the late Harry S. Truman used to say, “than a hog knows about Sunday.” But a wild thought streaked through my beady little six-volt mind this morning while preparing to attend Divine Services.
That with the reception Michelle Bachmann got in Iowa Saturday, and the way Ms. Bachmann sat all the male wannabes in the shade; Sarah Palin may just leave it to Michelle, and spend HER political capital campaigning for Michelle. I’d rather see SARAH run, or even the two of them run together, but who knows?
“Shes in over her head on foreign policy”
Then you must think many in the GOP is in over their head as well. She’s spouting the same take as McCain and many others.
Some Freepers apparently have decided that Sarah Palin is 'not acceptable' as the 2012 Republican party presidential nominee. Whether that decision is based on her resume, her gender, her policies or something else. Well, that's politics. Although I get annoyed with repetitive postings that consistently denigrate Palin and by so doing seek to antagonize her supporters or the posting of articles from leftist sources that bash Sarah Palin (often on specious grounds) I don't necessarily believe the people making those posts/threads should be banned unless they willfully violate site rules or simply become trolls seeking to stir up arguments that do nothing for the site or it's readers. We're not DU or the Koz.
That's how we end up with the Peolsi’s, et al.
Good points. I saw that article too. Michelle really did knock them (The crowd) dead and may be more of a contender than some of us realize.
Her early start HAS made a difference it seems.
Thanks FRiend.....
She seems to be running already, sort like a Gomer Pyle campaign. She’s a lot of like Gomer, but you know that already.
The bulk of the political class is is delusional on this and operating from an emotional perspective rather than reason.
Last time I heard, she said very clearly: NO troops on the ground. That was on Greta I think. No fly zone should have been done a month ago and NO troops on the ground. Please show us a tape or post where she said troops on the ground. Thanks .
