Granted, there was more reason for the MSM to hate Nixon ( he went after a pinko and managed to defeat her ),long before he was even chosen to run with Ike. And speaking of Ike, I bet that you don't know that the DNC ( who had desperately wanted Ike to run for president as a Dem and wooed him, unendingly ) and their supporters went after Mamie Eisenhower, with a terrible whispering campaign, which was even printed in handbooks, given out at campaign turns and at the conventions, calling her a "CLOSET FALLING DOWN DRUNK"; which she absolutely was not.
I don't think that the Huckster will run. Should he do so, I will be surprised. Unlike Palin, he has a weekly show, he doesn't really "count" anymore, as Sarah does, and he has a gigantic mortgage, to pay off, for his newish Florida home.
OTOH, Plain is much more politically involved, doesn't have a regular T.V. gig, and,from what I can tell, has a "fire in the belly" to get into the fray.
I think that you have a misprecieved view of most of FR's Palin supporters. I and many others, know that she has flaws ( everyone does; some more than others ), and have been fighting the PDSers, who are, indeed, the rabid ones, who see flaws in her, that aren't there.
Liberals "LOVE" Obama because he is a mulatto ( which they tend to ignore and just see him as "black" ), as far left as one can be, went to Ivy colleges, and he's a Dem. What's there for them to not like ?
Are you saying libertarians lack compassion? There is nothing compassionate about the nanny state.

I was not saying libertarians have no compassion...the “nor” implied a second category of persons that don’t believe in ever showing compassion in the form of not ever thinking that persons can actually be reformed...hence pardon are appropriate at times.
In the case of libertarians...they don’t think any behavior one engages in that doesn’t directly harm another (so called victimless...) is OK. So, they would consider most drug bans as “nanny state.” Agreed there is a point to where the “state” can be too intrusive. Problem is that everyone sees that line at different spot. Libertarians don’t see any lines. I cannot agree with that thinking on morale issues.
I am hoping that Mike stays out. I don’t think I trust him at the helm of state...although I’m not sure I trust Sarah any more than Mike. I don’t want Romney there for certain...but must be honest that this is due to him being a real Mormon. I see promise in Bachman....but she isn’t yet ready for prime time. Newt is a genuine leader, but I don’t trust anyone that has wrongly dumped two wives....that is a scary character flaw.

Actually, I didn’t even know who Mike Huckabee was until 2008. So, I wouldn’t have known about the discussions.
I only supported him in 2008 because a trusted Army Buddy from Arkansas asked me to consider supporting him. At the time, to a Conservative Christian Evangelical....he seemed to be one of my own type. I don’t see him as such anymore since he was strangely silent over the repeal of DADT in December when it counted the most....as was Sarah. I have jaded attitudes towards both now.
As we come closer to the ramp to 2012 my optimism is fading fast. There are forces behind this despicable man. Thier is to much riding on his destruction of America and the NWO to allow anything to come in the way. The Piubs and the rats are working in sync to make a shoo in possible to complete the task and agenda at hand. One possibility is an independent out of right field that will come in at the last minute of the last second and roast his a## in front of the American public. I can dream can’t I?
