Were now less than two years away from the next presidential election, which means its time for 2012 presidential speculation to begin! The first This Week of the year kicked off the talk with some of the biggest names on the Republican side, and George Will seems to have found through the litany of names what he called the Presidents secret weapon: Sarah Palins inability to be elected.
Asked by Jake Tapper (filling in for Christiane Amanpour) to evaluate the Republican landscape for November 2012, Will began by addressing the fact that Mike Huckabee had performed particularly well in the primaries in 2008 better than Mitt Romney and then added this salacious tidbit of speculation:
The Presidents secret weapon may be the Republican nominating electorate There is one person, high in the polls, Sarah Palin, who cannot be elected president because she cannot compete where elections are decided. In the collar counties outside Chicago, Montgomery County outside of Philadelphia just cant compete there.
He went on give some predictions based on the fact that nominees, he explained, tend to win the majority of electoral votes in the Mississippi Valley giving Gov. Tim Pawlenty, Sen. John Thune, and the suddenly-popular Gov. Mitch Daniels a leg up in that area.
It will be interesting to see if and when Palin confronts such derision, especially if this will set the tone for how pundits will discuss her chances for the rest of the year. While in 2010 two years removed she could afford to be glib about it over Twitter, her chances as she races the clock will increasingly depend on how presidential she can come across, that trait one that, using her behavior last year alone, may be easy to refudiate.
The clip from todays This Week on ABC below:

In a December 2006 column - Krauthammer urged Obama to run for president and “guaranteed that he would lose.
The campaign began, and Krauthammer “didnt believe the hype.” Where others were moved by Obamas mass appeal, Krauthammer found his campaign cultlike. His broad statements of purpose made him a cipher on the specifics. The famous race speech was, Krauthammers headline declared, a brilliant fraud.
He's met them or something, and thinks he can run in the primaries against Sarah Palin and beat her.
Will is an establishment, NE, country club Republican kind of guy... I’d have to do some googling to verify, but I seem to recall that Will was never much of a Reagan guy until Reagan was dead.
I have a better solution, but it may not be legal in some jurisdictions, and explaining it may result in my being banned from FR.
So let me just say; "Short rope, tall tree."

“Will and Krauthammer can kiss my rosy red ass”
I will second that my friend!
Elitist are trying to influence primaries already!
Both of these false conservatives offer no rationale for their pronouncements, other than they are following the corrupt Washington DC insider line!
When will we quit giving the Liberal Republican Pundits in the beltway the time of day? George Will is just another over the hill has been RINO talking head that I quit listening to years ago.
She’ll probably make a monkey out of old George Willi too.
GHW Bush, 1988.
A wrecked economy brought on by $5/ga gas may get her elected in spite of the msm...but short of that...the avg idiot in this country will re-elect the impostor if he/she has a job.
They are just determined we are going to be stuck with socialism or worse.
Wonder what they bribe is?
She’ll make a monkey out of old George Willi too.
The question is not, “can she win the primary”? I believe that she can do that. The real question is: “can she win 270 electoral votes” That’s the only question that counts and I don’t know the answer, but I am certainly going to try to figure it out before I vote.
I intend to support the most conservative candidate who can win 270 electoral votes. Those conservatives who can’t do that will just help Obama win.
Pence is the best choice anyway.

Isn’t he the egg-headed dunce who proclaimed Tony LaRussa a managerial genius?
Believe me, after 15 years of TLR in St. Louis, it is clear he is an egotistical blowhard, but clearly not a baseball genius, or even close.
Even 20 years ago, we did not have access to information about people and issues that the George Wills or Charles Krathammers had.
Today with FR and other sites we do. Why should we care what Will, Krathammer, Lowry or Barnes think when we have the information to make decisions ourselves?
Do you remember the last presidential run? Many on FR bought into the eneMedia claims.
"Ooh, we gotta have McCain! He's a MAVERICK! I noes cuz the press LURVS HIM! He's the only one who can win!"
Since it worked last time, why shouldn't they try again? After all, the same sheeple are drooling for Romney. A few are even fantasizing about Jeb Bush.
I would geuss that Reagan in ‘84 would have been the last to win IL. This was the only part of THIS WEEK that I saw. I geuss Will had to get his obligatory shot at Palin. The point seems irrelevant. If Palin wins the nomination it will be because she was impressive in the debates and had demonstated credibility in the areas that she is supposedly lacking today. Here is what I say one should look for. The american people will vote for someone as president who has a trait or characteristic that they see as lacking in the current president (In ‘76 Carter was elected because he said he would not lie and that contrasted the perceived lies of Vietnam and Watergate, in ‘80 people saw Carter as weak so we elected someone who conveyed strength in Reagan, in ‘88 people liked the Reagan 80’s but maybe they perceived the time as being a bit selfish so they elected a points of light and kinder gentler Bush, in ‘92 people felt Bush paid a bit too much attention to foreign policy and not as much to domestic policy so they elected Clinton, in 2000 they saw Bush had the morals Clinton/Gore did not have so they elected him and in ‘08 they saw in Bush a president that was lacking the ability to talk/communicate and they fell for the moderate act of Obama). So ask yourself which one of the republicans has a trait that is severly lacking in Obama that the independent voters would want. Then the republican have their nominee for 2012.
Is that show still on the air?
What they're doing isn't scaring us - they're pissing us off!
