The Globes editorial board rightly argued yesterday that Mitt Romney should defend his record as the governor of Massachusetts including the states landmark health care legislation as he launches his probable campaign for the GOP nomination in 2012. But the editorial didnt go far enough: It's not only Romney who should embrace his record on health care reform. Conservatives should as well. Far from being an albatross around Romney's neck, the former governor's health-care legacy proves that he is by far the strongest, most innovative, credible, and conservative GOP hopeful who could take on President Obama.
Here are three reasons why:
1) Conservatives like the concept of states, not the federal government, experimenting with public policies to determine their relative merits. Have you ever seen the phrase, states as laboratories of democracy? Do you agree with the concept? If so, credit Mitt Romney with the leadership and skill to negotiate a thoughtful compromise with the Massachusetts state legislature to get uninsured citizens health care coverage.
2) Conservatives like the concept of tailoring solutions to the unique circumstances in states and localities. Has Romney ever endorsed every element of the Massachusetts legislation as a viable, nationwide solution? Of course he hasnt. To the contrary, credit Romney with having the guts to step up and admit that certain elements of the plan didnt work the way his team had anticipated, particularly in light of last minute changes by the state legislature....

Hard to defend the indefensible.
When the foreign occupier employed the phrase 'fundamentally transforming America' two years ago, that's precisely what he meant. Zer0 has no intention of going quietly.
OBAMA AS NURSE HURT: 'What part of the Constitution can were trash today?'

So many people like Romney have been able to toddle along saying they’re “moderate” Republicans for so long that they haven’t yet realized that people are on to their game. They still think they’re going to be ahead by saying they can work with the fascists and make “reasonable compromises”. People are awake now, though, and realize that there’s no way to compromise with those who want to end the Constitution and rule as little tin gods.
The truth is, Romney and a lot of others have always been nothing other than democrat fifth-columnists who sap money and strength away from other Republicans and undermine the unity it takes to fight the fascist democrat thugs.

Bizzaro-world is right. Liberal pundits on CNN the other night were also saying that Romney is clearly the GOP’s top choice... the same liberal pundits who thought Obama was “The One.” Great instincts...
Please, no Romney.... He’s a Douche.
Where’s the barf alert?
Socialism, whether on the state or federal level, is still atheistic.
RINO Romney should embrace his socialism and run as a Democratic (socialist) Party of America member, not a Republican Party member.
WOW! If Romney is trying to gain support, he needs to put these arguments back in his dirty magazine drawer and never take them out again.
“Bizzaro-world” doesn’t tell you sumpthin’s up?
Let me see if I have this straight. The Boston Globe editors favor repealing Obamacare and getting the Federal Government out of it forever and all time?
If so, that's a concept I can buy.
Romney is no more a Conservative than is George Soros.
In this case, the state lab in Massachussetts spawned a Frankenstein. Just because something comes from a state, it does not therefore make it a good idea.
I'm sick and tired of having the MSM choose the candidates to ensure the power elites in Washington stay the power elites. It's time to take a flamethrower to the place.
You nailed it. That’s exactly their game plan, just as it was with Juan McCain. Talk him up in the primary, lift him up as much as they can (because they know he can’t win in the general) and then join the other side in the massive attacks against his obvious weaknesses, weaknesses that they help cover up during the primary.
It was their formula for “success” in 2008 and it’s what they are winding up to do right now for 2012.
Romney’s minions have been trying to address RomneyCare in the press over the past month to get it out of the way of his 2012 run. This is one of the more direct attempts to do so. Despite my distain for old Flip-Flop Romney, I was willing to hear the arguments that somehow RomneyCare isn’t as bad as I have believed it is so I try to read these articles with an open mind. However, if this is their best argument, Romney is doomed. Bush did a better job trying to explain his Medicare drug entitlement than this nonsense.
Conservatives view states as laboratories for social policies. Yes, that’s true. But that doesn’t mean conservatives advocate Communism in a state as a social policy!
Conservatives want business input into policies. Yes, that is true, but conservatives don’t want input that rigs the game for big companies at the expense of competition—that is the same Crony Capitalism just like the Wall Street and GM bailouts.
These arguments just reinforce my view that Romney would be George Bush II on economnic issues. More government pretending to somehow be “conservative.” We’ll wake up with the same hangover we had after Bush left.
Tenncare is about to bankrupt Tennessee.
