In politics, what is the value of any Ivy League education?
The answer this year might be: a certain ability to walk a very fine line.
Consider that two of the Tea Party's most potent insurgents, Joe Miller in Alaska and Ken Buck in Colorado, possess Ivy League graduate degrees. The progressive left's most interesting bomb-thrower, Rep. Alan Grayson from Florida, has one too.
Courting the energized wings of their parties and somehow making sure that middle-of-the-road folks aren't too put out requires a certain rhetorical and presentational sophistication. Buck, Miller, and Grayson have interview skills, spin skills, "wink wink, nod nod" skills ... an ability to keep insiders calm while keeping outsiders happy.
Two Tea Party candidates who lack presentational skills are Nevada Senate GOP nominee Sharron Angle and potential Delaware nominee Christine O'Donnell. These two can barely get through even a sympathetic interview.
This says nothing about the Ivies, or about the relative merits of these candidates ... only about the way they come off to people who aren't necessarily inclined to agree with them politically. Ivy League educations aim to groom their graduates to be among society's most productive, successful members. Getting a degree implies an ability to get along with elitists, even if you don't like them and think they're ruining the country.

The Ivy League is just another group of universities. It’s that simple. They have some exceptionally bright faculty, and some not so exceptional faculty. There are smart people everywhere, and the Ivy schools have no monopoly on them. It’s really remarkable to me how many people buy into the false mystique of certain universities. It’s really a joke.
Nothing wrong with Ivy education as long as you don’t act like an elitist. I don’t believe that West Point is Ivy but it certainly is up there among the toughest to get into.
Anzd, the kids who do get in compete for a spot on merit, not because of connections.

True. Actually connections works very well at West Point too....your father graduated from West Point and you have a great chance at getting in. Although you can’t have 400 overall SAT scores though...lol.
The Wall Street Journal just released a study that Ivy League schools are POISON for jobs in business.
Companies don’t like or hire Ivy League graduates!
What NOBODY in the old, old media wants to know is something we here do already - the Hueys are overhead and the elites are just so much beef.

I think Miller went to Yale for law school??
Color me as unimpressed by an Ivy League education when it comes to political candidates.
Reagan - Eureka College
Obama - Columbia and Harvard
Miller didn’t go to West Point for his graduate education. He went to Yale (JD).
West Point doesn’t do grad degrees, and I wasn’t aware of where he went to law school.
Is that why we call it High School on the Hudson?
My sister went to Harvard....then she worked for the government.
Then, she toasted the “End of Capitalism” with champagne she didn’t share with anyone else! (how.....un-communist of her! I didn’t HAVE any champagne!)
Now....she “teaches” at a school for “international business”!!!!!! Hypocritical, huh? (and, she’s not “smart” enough to recognize the hypocrisy!!!!!!)
Then, she voted for the Marxist that is pResident and has surrounded himself with Harvard-oides that are bringing the United States to it’s knees and putting people into poverty, thinking the “little people” will be impressed with Harvard credentials!!!!!!
Ivy League? Ivy League INDOCTRINATION....and, it’s not worth SPIT.
Some of the best people I know are those rare Ivy League true conservatives. They survived - much as did Jonah - in the very belly of the beast!
The rest of the Ivies should be suffused with DDT!!
That will kill body lice and crabs and not do much else. Do you know what DDT is? (The "science" against DDT was cooked every bit as much as the "science" proving AGW).
