More Romney reboots
The Boston Globe ^ | August 22, 2010 | Joan Vennochi

Posted on 08/21/2010 9:39:38 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

FOR MITT Romney, running for president in 2012 looks a lot like running for governor in 2002.

All he has to do is elbow aside a Republican woman, run against Democratic leaders and their liberal lockstep politics, and keep talking about the economy.

Eight years ago, that was the Massachusetts game plan. After Romney thrust himself into the governor’s race as the can-do candidate with a Harvard MBA, acting Governor Jane Swift took herself out of it. Romney then turned Shannon O’Brien, the Democratic gubernatorial candidate and the Democratic leaders of the Massachusetts Legislature, into the so-called “gang of three.’’ He edged from the right to the center on social issues, focused on the economy, and won.

Sarah Palin will be harder to dislodge than Swift. The former GOP vice presidential candidate has money and loyal supporters devoted to her Facebook campaign of hot-button issues.

But Romney is working the old-fashioned way to establish credentials as the reasonable can-do businessman who can position himself against President Obama and Democratic leaders in Congress. As he did in 2002, Romney is now trying to downplay social issues, although it’s hard with Palin driving the debate from health care to mosques. But Romney is a disciplined man, who knows how to stay on message. His new message is the old one he ran on in Massachusetts.

It’s always fun to watch him struggle with his own past.

And I am sure Swift can give Sarah some insight into Mittens.

Swift has on more than one occasion had Sarah’s Back.

He edged from the right to the center on social issues, focused on the economy, and won.

So I guess the plan outside of Mass now would be to return to the right on social issues and focus on the economy?

"His new message is the old one he ran on in Massachusetts."
I wonder if it is the old 'I can out liberal Ted Kennedy' message he used to make the people of Massachusetts.

Indeed, just in the past 5 minutes alone.

At some point this slimy SOB is going to have to speak in front of a crowd of no BS conservatives who will tear into him so hard it will make Ceausescus last speech look tame by comparison.

He can run , but he cant hide.

Well, we’re waiting.... So far there’s only one who has positioned against Obama and Democratic leaders and it’s not Romney.

Romster needs to give an hour speech on the hypocrisy of his idol Joe Smith. Start with the "abomination" quote about Christians. Talk the trut about Smith. Get it all out. All the jive about the star Kolob and all the gods.

It would finally end Romney's political career, but it would be very entertaining. Great ratings, guaranteed!

Romney had a lot of baggage before. Add Romneycare, support for TARP and the stimulus to the mix. Stir slowly. Run, and watch the big bang. Buh Bye Mitt.

"In his op-ed piece, Romney also criticized the president for “new taxes to pay for ObamaCare’’
— ignoring RomneyCare, the Massachusetts health reform law that was the Obama administration’s model,
minus a way to pay for it.
When it comes to position-shifting, Romney is in a class by himself.
But voters have short memories and the capacity to choose one flip-flopper over another.

Hardcore conservatives are Romney’s biggest obstacle, because they remember his multiple political personalities.

Everyone remembers that old saying from the Clinton era — it’s the economy, stupid.
On that topic, you know Romney thinks he’s really smart and you also know which rival he thinks is really not."

[Boston Globe, August 2010]

Romney praises Obama again
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney praised President Obama
at a GOP fundraising dinner Wednesday ..
"I also think it's important for us to nod to the president when he's right," Romney said....
Romney, who spoke at a dinner for the National Republican Senatorial Committee,
said he's pleased with the president's plans to "finish the job" in Iraq and Afghanistan
-- lines that drew applause from the partisan audience. He also applauded the president
for standing up to the auto industry.
"I hope he continues to be tough ....The former businessman even offered faint praise for
Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner, saying that after a series of initial missteps,
"I think he's finally getting close to the right answer."

History will not be kind to Mitt Romney
who THREW the election to Obama and then mercilessly
had his team attack (still ongoing, isnt it?)
a woman and her children (while she was trying to
save America).

Fact: The McCain/Palin ticket was up ++4 to 10 pts. in some polls, days prior to the election.
So rather than helping the GOP, Romney and
TeamROMNEY decided …… to attack Gov. Palin to throw Election2008.

"Frum was indeed a critic of Palin, calling her nomination a "huge mistake" during an October 13 (2008, weeks before the election) Early Show appearance."

David Frum: "Two of our most plausible candidates for president in 2012 are leading Mormons: Mitt Romney and Utah governor Jon Huntsman."

David Frum: "I have a lot of regard for Mitt Romney as a man and politician… I will support him without qualm."

Late in October, The American Spectator's The Prowler revealed:
"Former Mitt Romney presidential campaign staffers…
have been involved in spreading anti-Palin spin to reporters, seeking to diminish her standing after the election.
'Sarah Palin is a lightweight, she won't be the first, not even the third, person people will think of when it comes to 2012,'
says one former Romney aide…
'The only serious candidate ready to challenge to lead the Republican Party is Mitt Romney.
"Some former Romney aides were behind the recent leaks to media, including CNN, that Governor Sarah Palin was a 'diva' and was going off message intentionally."

The Palmetto Scoop reported: "One of the first stories to hit the national airwaves was
the claim of a major internal strife between close McCain aides and the folks handling his running mate Sarah Palin."
"I’m told by very good sources that this was indeed the case and that a rift had developed, but it was between Palin’s people and the staffers brought on from the failed presidential campaign of former Gov. Mitt Romney, not McCain aides."
"The sources said nearly 80 percent of Romney’s former staff was absorbed by McCain and these individuals were responsible for what amounts to a premeditated, last-minute sabotage of Palin."
… aides loyal to Romney inside the McCain campaign, said The Scoop, reportedly saw
that Palin would be a serious contender for the Republican nomination in 2012 or 2016, which made her a threat to another presidential quest by Romney.

Erick Erickson, who organized Operation Leper, said:
"These staffers are now out trying to finish her off ….hoping it would ingratiate themselves with Mitt Romney."

"Who's the Palin Leaker from the McCain Campaign?
National Review Online The publication of a Vanity Fair profile of Sarah Palin
appears to have opened old wounds in the McCain campaign.
... the source of the “Diva” leak was Nicolle Wallace’s husband."

Kathleen Parker: "[I]t is increasingly clear that Palin is a problem." "Parker ... says something publicly that many of us have thought privately
but lacked the courage to say out loud - Palin should step down:"

"Kathleen Parker: After Interviews, Palin Should Bow Out"

Kathleen Parker: "Romney would bring more than squeaky clean qualifications
and youthful good looks to the ticket.
Romney would seem a logical choice."

"Parker: Romney raised bar on freedoms"
Kathleen Parker: "If Kennedy's speech was an important landmark in American political history,
Romney's was surpassing. With heartfelt humility and poetic eloquence,
he tracked the nation's struggle with and for freedom."

Staggering bigotry of Kathleen Parker - UPDATED"
