Poll Shows Muddled Race Among GOP 2012 Contenders

The four top presumed Republican presidential contenders are essentially tied in a poll of national primary voters released Monday.

The poll, by Public Policy Polling, showed former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee leading the field with the support of 23 percent of respondents.

But second place contender, former Mass. Gov. Mitt Romney, was only slightly behind with 22 percent support.

Furthermore both former Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich won 21 percent of the vote, well within the poll's 4.9 percent margin of error. Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, won 4 percent support.

But while only 2 percent favored "unnamed others" and 7 percent registered undecided when questioned about the list of candidates, a full 24 percent said they would like to see other candidates than the five named contenders in a separate question -- more than any single contender was able to score.

Conversely 54 percent said they were happy with the current field and 22 percent were unsure about whether they'd like to see additional candidates enter the race.

Of the expected GOP presidential contenders for 2012, Palin proved the most popular with 76 percent reporting a favorable opinion of her and only 17 percent viewing her unfavorably.

Gingrich scored second highest with a 65 percent favorability rating, followed relatively closely by Huckabee at 62 percent and Romney at 57 percent. A full 40 percent said they were unsure of their opinion of Paul, more than the 36 percent who held a favorable opinion.

2012 is totally irrelevent at this point in time.

2 November, 2010 is all that we need to focus on for the moment. If we fail to do what needs to be done in November, 2012 will be a moot point.

Stroker and his minions in the RAT party need to be handcuffed, shackled and gagged.

Plain and simple.

Once again the media is trying to steer voters towards specific individuals before anyone has declared.

The poll is good news for Palin and bad news for Romney.

Romney has spent well over 150 million dollars to get Republicans to like him and he isn’t getting much return for his money.

Yep, I’m surprised they didn’t have a poll for McCain too.

I truly don’t think Huckabee, Gingrich, Daniels nor Romney are serious contenders. DeMint, Palin, Bauchmann are the contenders in my book. Sorry Corporate media, you don’t get to choose the contenders this time around.

“Muddled” is a ridiculous adjective to employ at this stage.

Oddly, this is essentially my order of preference among this group,

Sorry Corporate media, you don’t get to choose the contenders this time around.

I certainly hope not.

Either way, unless we close our primaries, liberals will cross over en masse to vote for the weakest RINO in the race.

We must win by a landslide in November. We finish scouring the stench from the sewer that is this Congress later.

The race appears “muddled” because three of the top 4 candidates suck ass.

I doubt Jeb Bush is going to run. His last name is a problem and he isn’t and he isn’t the best one out there. Need real conservatives. Tea Partiers are going to fuel who and who wins. The problem is which states have primaries. Iowa, for one thing, is a joke because caucuses are flawed. New Hampshire is a bit rino. I fear the wrong states picking the wrong people. Not sure what to make of your prediction of John Thune, Haley Barbour, Mitch Daniels, and Rick Perry. Eight now we just don’t know who will run. Romney and Palin seem to be the only two people keep pushing on us.
