We’re talking about two different things. You want to discuss Palin’s suitability as the queen of conservatism while others want to talk about political realities and what it takes to win 50+1% of the vote in a general election.

Its early, and a lot can happen, but it would be a mistake to say that she is in a strong position for 2012 right now. Palin is very well positioned to win the Republican nomination.

Ask Albert Goracle Jr. what 50+1% of the vote in the general election got him.
But yes, we need a candidate that cannot just win the R primary; but one who can get >270 electoral votes.
I think Sarah Palin can win the general election based upon her experience, her positions and her charisma; as well as utter dissatisfaction and/or horror at the opposition. She is, right now, my favorite likely candidate; but I eagerly await her performance at the debates before I am sold solid.

I want to recognize that conservatives finally have a conservative frontrunner, and that liberals like you want to stop that conservative from winning the primary so that you can put in another moderate to liberal, that reflects your politics.
Trying to convince conservatives to suddenly turn against their goal and follow the media’s decision for the GOP candidate and to suddenly stop promoting a conservative just as they are about to win, is liberalism. You admit that Palin is in position to win the nomination, you just don’t want that to happen.
Another Ford, HW Bush, Bob Dole, John McCain, or a Mitt Romney? No thanks. BobJ

How can people respond when were being censored and threatened with banning for posting Palin criticisms?
You all should get together and ask Jim to lift the curfew and then we can have a legitimate and honest discussion. This is a keeper for its utter lack of validity and sheer humor.
I'm pinging Jim ONLY so he can see it and laugh along with me. LOL.

IMO she can win the primary but not the general. FWIW I dont see that changing in the next couple of years, but who knows. Zactly. At this juncture, who knows. Events change the dynamics. Up today, down tomorrow. The Republican sweep in November is not a certainty either.

I wish that were so, but I do not consider either Mitt or Sarah to be a conservative. We all know the issues with Mitt. Sarah has supported LOST, Cap and Trade and TARP. Her comments about opposing Amnesty but being for a "path to citizenship" makes one question where she stands on that issue. Being for the "Bridge to Nowhere" before being opposed to it is not comforting either. I hope she remains a media figure, where she is doing a fine job of going after the left. Let someone with a more consistent record step forward to lead the conservative movement.

The conservative movement and the conservative primary voters disagree with you, they see Governor Palin as conservative.
The critics on this thread consist of freepers that believe that she is too conservative to win a general election.

".. they see Governor Palin as conservative."
Here record does not support that perception. How can one be considered conservative who supported LOST, Cap and Trade and TARP? Anyone one of these would be a disqualifier for a political figure with whom conservatives did not have an emotional attachment to. Sometimes people simply "see" what is not there. Case in point is the number of Americans who "saw" Obama as a moderate unifier.

Sorry, but the conservative movement disagrees with you, conservatives are Palin’s base, and the moderate wing of the GOP is trying to stop her for that reason.

At this point my doubts about her regarding the former question outweigh my doubts about her regarding the latter.

I like your translation better....it's so French.
Let me add........I picture the King and Marie Antoinette fleeing for their lives on that dark and stormy night in the ornate royal carriage that appeared empty, but was not, making its way across the darkened French countryside known for its fine vineyards, not knowing they would soon lose their thrones and their heads which is why unlucky Pierre was sitting uneasily in a small cafe on the Left bank drinking strong coffee and wondering if, indeed, he should also eat cake.

Merci!
I think you have Pierre down. A troubled soul to be sure.
You know of course that the bishop pondered the message before him, fingered his cross and thought of the things to come. Andre exhausted after a hard days work in the vineyard looked at the same message and wondered why it was written in German. Andre sadly, had no German.

I do not think that she can win the primaries. A majority of Republican voters are much smarter than falling for a like Palin who talks slogans and platitudes and picks up fights with the liberal media just to give a thrill for her followers in particular those on the conservative forums. The majority of Republican voters know that she has no chance of winning in the general elections and hence they will not make her the Republican nominee.

“I think Sarah Palin can win the general election based upon her experience, her positions and her charisma;”
Her experience will work against her (quitting in Alaska), her positions are hazy (particularly immigration), you can’t run on slogans and sound bites (drill baby drill) and her “charisma” is restricted to a minority group of conservatives and pubs.
IMO.

Her ‘tactical retreat’ from the Governorship has enabled her to be the political tour de force we see today, rather than a ‘mired in ethics allegations’ Governor. The people of Alaska that she ‘abandoned’ seem to still hold her in high regard and recognize that she has been far more effective in the lower 48 than if she had stayed in Juno.
Her positions are more well defined than any other likely candidate out there. The only “confusion” out there is among those who want to contrast HER positions with the positions she had to hold to as a VP candidate. Romney is pretty specific, he is specific why he ONCE held a position, and he might get fairly specific why he NOW holds a different position.
Her charisma sells out speaking halls and lines around the block book signings all across America. You would have to be blind or in denial to not see that she is one of the more popular and charismatic speakers, if not THE most popular and charismatic speaker on the right.
Care to name any individual who evokes such enthusiasm on the right?
