It's easy to see what happened in Idaho -- we're paying bigtime for these open primaries. Walt Minnick, the incumbent, currently only has 8,415 votes, meaning that many, many Democrats used the Republican primary ballot, and voted for Labrador. With Labrador on the Republican ticket in November, the Democrats win either way.
US Representative, District 1
DEM Walt Minnick 8,415 100.0%

REP Harley D. Brown 2,334 3.9%
REP Michael L. Chadwick 4,088 6.8%
REP Raul R. Labrador 27,461 45.9%
REP Allan M Salzberg 1,811 3.0%
REP Vaughn Ward 24,152 40.4%

Ward only has himself to blame for his screw-ups. It was his to lose. As for November, only one of those two will vote for Pelosi for Speaker in January, and it won’t be Labrador.

It's easy to see what happened in Idaho -- we're paying bigtime for these open primaries. Rank and file Republican conservatives in Idaho overwhelmingly moved to close their primaries. 95% of the delegates to the state convention voted to do so. And they were stymied at every step by the party "leadership." So cry me a river.
