BIG GOP WIN in 2010! Then what?
Vanity Post Freerepublic | February 22, 2010 | Kenny Bunk

Posted on 02/19/2010 8:14:11 AM PST by Kenny Bunk

I believe the Republican resurgence in 2010 will retake control of Congress.

In fact, I think that the above statement is a given. Why am I not happy?

I am far from happy. I am fearful. The Republicans are coming to town without a clear plan, without direction, without expressed objectives, without a timetable, and perhaps worst of all, without a leader.

It is essential for our national recovery that an easily understood, step by step plan be put forward, promoted, and thoroughly explained. Who will lead?

The GOP must lead forward. If we fail, the country will plunge into the political paralysis forecast by Pat Buchanan in his last column.

It is simply not enough for us to win in November. We have to win, and hit the ground running. We need an immediate score in our opening set of downs.

1) Recind the rest of the “Stimulus” spending

2) Get back the bank “Bailout” money

3) recind the NCLB act

4) recind the medicaid drig benefit

5) build the damn wall

6) lower taxes across the board

7) Make all government employees, and congresscritters, part of the socialist security system, and medicare/medicaid system, just like the rest of us commoners

This would be a good start

Do away with most deductions and make everybody who earns an income pay something with regard to taxes. Lower the rates to sweeten the loss of deductions.

Cut taxes on businesses to 0%. You heard me, ZERO.

Businesses do NOT pay taxes - they pass those costs along to the consumer in the form of higher prices, or they pass them to their employees in the form of lower salaries. No business simply takes the hit to its bottom line.

Second thing - limit executive compensation to a finite percentage, like say, 40x the pay of the corporation's(about what it was in the 1950s) Currently, American CEOs get paid about 475x the average pay. That way, if the CEO wants a raise, he's got to give the janitors a raise, too, thus increasing everyone's purchasing power.

Here's what happens:

1. We retake Congress in 2010 but fall short in the US Senate.

2. Congress continues to partisan bicker and while money gets spent nothing really changes.

3. Jeb Bush and the Big East RNC money guys get together and coronate Jeb as the "Real Conservative Bush" and nominate him for President in 2012.

4. Tea Party types split off from R's and Dems return/stay in power.

FWIW,

TS

A return to business as usual. That is really what appears to be on the agenda. I don’t get a real sense that the Republican leadership gets it. I look at the idea that we should elect Republicans no matter how liberal just because they have an ‘R’ in front of their name as an indicator that there are still big problems. Even some here are stuck in the old Bush mode. Granted Bush was better than Obama but do we really want to go back to the old Compassionate Conservatism crap pushing Romney Care, big enviornment policies, spending on Education like a Democrat, and never really ever reducing the size of government which is what a majority of “We the People Want?”. We need to be careful because I’ve been hearing far too much that sounds like a return to the good bad ole days before Obama. We need a vision founded in liberty and individual sovereignty and we won’t get this by standing by and not challenging the Republicans where they deserve it such as in Illinois and California, and in other places where I still hear the mantra “A conservative just can’t win”. It is the same old defeatism, because if you aren’t electing conservatives then you aren’t electing people who respect or love this country and its founding principles. You are electing just another round of self serving politicians who will not only disappoint but will soon forget the Tea Parties and even work to undermine them at first option because many of the retreds I see running don’t believe in real limits to government. They will get elected and because they are independently wealthy and don’t really give a damn about what we think or the constitution will go off doing their own thing. We need to take advantage of the opportunity that this election cycle provides. We should expect more than the career politician or the Rhinos who parade around in conservative garb. Also if we will not be honest with ourselves even when it may mean losing where we could’ve been compromising and won then how can we expect those we elect to really champion the issues we care about?

Pass a balanced budget law to stop deficit spending.

That's no fun. Live within a budget?

That would make them like the rest of us commoners who have to live within our budgets.

They wouldn't stand for that! Too many perks. Too many politicial i.o.u.'s.

Open a super highway for companies that do R & D, giving them 5 years of tax breaks for any new innovations which go to market and succeed.

De-fund education at the federal level.

Stop earmarks, totally.

End the relationship between car makers and the federal govt.

End federal involvement in student loans.

Limit the EPA office to a 2000 square foot space in a strip mall.

End federal involvement in the mortgage industry.

Downsize all budgets by 1/4, except for military.

Tort reform health care.

Sorry, pal, but I am a Federal employee. We do have a retirement system called FERS (Federal Employee Retirement System). It's a combination of a defined pension plan (1% of the average of your highest three years of base pay times the years of Federal service), Social Security, and a 401(k) style plan called the Thrift Savings Plan.

We most definitely pay into Social Security. That is, in fact, the foundation of the FERS program.

Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution is the first thing they should pass.

OK, the 2011 budget is $1.6 trillion in the red. Balance it for us please.

Hopefully, they learned something from the screw-ups the last time they had majorities.

The people who led them last time will lead them next time. What do you think?

The Economy:

(1) Set the budget number at the same point as 2005. Sequester all unspent TARP and Stimulus Funds immediately.

(2) Close Departments of Energy, EPA, Education, Housing and Urban Development

(3) Continue Bush Tax Cuts to individuals. Begin work on a simplified tax code. Allow and promote "new hire deductions."

Energy:

(4) Energy: Cease all "Climate Change Iniatives" immediately. Begin Nuclear Plants on Closed Military Bases, remove restrictions on coal, authorize offshore oil development, increase refining capacity by 50%, encourage conversion of domestic auto fleet to diesel, restrict passenger car engine size with displacement tax, convert exhaust measurement from FROM ppm TO mmp. Set a goal of 75% nuclear energy as our electricity source in 25 years. Call it the War for Energy Independence ...Think Manhattan Project. Exploit natural gas, domestic oil, oil shales to the maximum. End ethanol fuel program. Set maximum oil price on those oil exporters who cannot exist without our military protection. MAXIMIZE DOMESTIC PRODUCTION.

Immigration

(5) Fence and patrol the entire Mexican Border. End birthright citizenship. Place jailed foreigners in tent city labor battalions, prior to deportation. Massively Increase deportation of illegals, immediately replace ALL illegal workers with citizens. Encourage military enlistment as a means of achieving citizenship.

Defense

(6)Increase military budgets to a set percentage of GNP.

Vote Fraud

(7) Cut off funding for states who do not submit plans to reform their voter rolls

Constitution

(8) Repeal the 17th Amendment and return the selection of Senators to State Legislatures and Governors. Immediately appoint an assistant attorney general to bring the Writ of Quo Warranto forward for Barack Obama, to establish in concrete and steel who is eligible to run for and serve as POTUS. Healthcare

(9) Form a select committee to prepare and present a privately funded national health care program based on universal insurance. Fix the ssytem where broken, ONLY.

Communications

(10) Review broadcast licenses for those media outlets overtly politicizing the news. Immediately cease federal funding for NPR.

Grade all candidates for office. If anyone wants to run as a Republican, 70% is passing. If any Freepers out there are Project Managers, you know what is needed next: Amplan. And a Leader. Plan the work. Work the plan. Of course the Left will obstruct.

Don't think Obama and his Marxist cohort are going to go at all quietly. What he is not so subtly holding over our heads is the threat of "urban violence." But, if 60% of the voters can back most of these elements, it won't much matter and we can get to work .... if we can get the GOP to work and lead. We are about at the end of the economic rope. We can hang ourselves with it, or pull ourselves up.
Sorry, but right now, it is not at all clear to me which alternative the GOP will choose.

No offense meant, none taken.

FERS is the name for the whole comprehensive package. It’s got three parts - Social Security, the pension (often mistakenly called FERS by itself) and the TSP.

The Social Security portion is just like everybody else - you work and pay into SS, and when you retire you get the same SS benefit as anyone else with the same work history (ie, made the same amount of money over the same time period, etc). Same eligibility rules, same benefits, same everything.

The TSP is just like a 401(k)- your employer (in my case, the FedGov) matches your contribution within certain rules. The TSP matching rules are weird, but it basically amounts to 100% matching for up to 5% of your pay. There’s tons of info at www.tsp.gov.

The pension plan works like so - when you retire, they average your “high three,” or the three years in which you earned the highest base pay (base pay, not locality pay, OT, or whatever else). Let’s say that average comes out to $50k. Then they take 1% of that ($500) and multiply it by your total years of service (say 30 years)to get your annual pension - $500 x 30 = $15,000 per year.

So, between the three parts, it’s basically the same as most other retirement plans. They have Social Security (which may or may not exist when I retire in 2039), a small defined pension plan, and their 401(k), which they expect to fund the bulk of their retirement.

“right now, it is not at all clear to me which alternative the GOP will choose”

New Jersey Gov. Christi is the Canary in the Coal Mine right now, sending a Signal . . . . . Rush was bragging about him Thursday, and if he keeps this up he may soon need a body guard in NJ, someone better than Hoffa’s Body Guard.

Simple. Cut $1.6 trillion in spending and the budget is balanced.

It’s pretty obvious you are not a conservative!

If you were, we would NOT be having this discussion about whether we should balance the federal budget.
