PHOENIX, AZ U.S. Senator John McCains re-election campaign today issued the following statement from campaign Communications Director Brian Rogers on former Congressman J.D. Hayworth entering the Republican primary this morning:
Senator John McCain has full confidence that the people of Arizona will again return him to the U.S. Senate this year and will work hard to earn their continued support. Senator McCain understands that to earn the votes of hardworking Arizonans, you first have to respect them by telling the truth. Former Congressman Hayworth obviously disagrees, and it was sad to see him use blatant lies and fabrications to attack Senator McCain when he officially entered the race for U.S. Senate today. Some examples:
Mr. Hayworth falsely said today that Senator McCain supported the Obama budget when in fact Senator McCain not only opposed the Obama budget, but offered an alternative for the Republicans focused on pro-growth economic policies, eliminating wasteful pork barrel spending and help for small businesses.
Mr. Hayworth falsely said today that Senator McCain supported banking legislation with earmarks when in fact the bill that Senator McCain voted for included no earmarks whatsoever, and unlike Mr. Hayworth, Senator McCain has never sought a pork barrel earmark and led the fight to ban the practice.
Mr. Hayworth falsely said today that Senator McCain supports amnesty when in fact Senator McCain has never supported amnesty, and continues to fight every day to secure our borders first and find solutions to solve our immigration problem.
Mr. Hayworth falsely said today that Senator McCain was on the liberals side on some of the most important issues of the day, apparently forgetting Senator McCains courageous fight for the successful Iraq surge, his lead role opposing President Obamas failed stimulus plan and attempted government takeover of our health care system, and his longstanding fight against wasteful spending regardless of which party is in leadership.
One would think that when asking Arizonans to entrust him to represent them in the U.S. Senate, Mr. Hayworth would have the decency to at least respect them enough to tell the truth. Instead, Mr. Hayworth has started his campaign with a litany of lies. Sorry J.D., the people of Arizona arent stupid. Theyre on to you.
Mr. Hayworth has obviously resorted to lies and distortion today because he has no record of his own to stand on. We look forward to reminding Arizona voters about Mr. Hayworths real record of liberal big government spending and ethically questionable conduct, including:
Mr. Hayworth voted for the 2005 Highway Bill that included 6,500 pork barrel earmarks totaling more than $24 billion including $200 million for the infamous Bridge to Nowhere. Senator McCain opposed that obscene spending bill, has never sought an earmark and sponsored legislation to kill the Bridge to Nowhere.
Mr. Hayworth voted for the Prescription Drug Benefit that added a huge new entitlement to Medicare and left American taxpayers with trillions in unfunded liabilities. Senator McCain led the charge against it.
Mr. Hayworth was the largest recipient of campaign contributions tied to the corrupt lobbyist Jack Abramoff. Senator McCain led the investigation that exposed Abramoffs corruption.
Mr. Hayworth today promised to serve only two terms if elected, but he made and broke a similar pledge when he first ran for Congress, so why would anyone believe him now?
The fact is, the people of Arizona rejected Mr. Hayworths undistinguished record when they resoundingly voted him out of his solidly Republican U.S. House seat in 2006.
Senator McCain looks forward to discussing Mr. Hayworths record as well as his own positive vision for a stronger, safer, and more prosperous America.

The old fool has gone senile!!
Was he the designated counterpart of Senator Kyl, who voted against it so he would have permission to bring it back to the floor at a later date to pass it?
“Mr. Hayworth falsely said today that Senator McCain supports amnesty when in fact Senator McCain has never supported amnesty, and continues to fight every day to secure our borders first and find solutions to solve our immigration problem.”
Telling such obvious lies indicates McLame must be appealing to the “parallel universe” voting block.
This is just too hilarious.
This race could end up being a lot of fun.
Amen, brother. Great post!
Let McCain campaign against McCain.
Retire Juan!
Thank you for your service, Senator McCain. Now leave.
‘We don’t need any more ‘maverick’ crap when the big amnesty push starts again. ‘
I am sick and tired of ‘my friend’! When I hear it, I automatically check my finger count and billfold!
McCain is a progressive. Proof positive of this fact = The liberal media is supporting him with endless positive stories.
Amen, skeeter.
C’mon. McQueeg denied that amnesty was amnesty. Of course he’s not going to admit supporting it.
I think he also said that Teddy Roosevelt was his role model.
all of us that consider ourselves progressive --you know at the same time we can be conservative--
You’re correct, I am “com’oning!” :)
Bob please e mail this to Hayworth. It is the perfect list!
I don’t reside in AZ, but do care about RINOs and borders. MPLS and St.Paul are both ‘sanctuary cities’ here in MN as are several other large, libtard-run cities .
Both city’s mayors are always whining for more LGA (state welfare for citys) but don’t seem to mind paying for service illegals use.
I don't even live in AZ and I have long since grown weary of him...
Go, JD!
Too bad for McCain that the people of Arizona have a long memory and know the truth. He did support amnesty with Kennedy and others. He all but laughed in our faces and he would’ve kept on laughing had it passed. He isn’t to be trusted!!
Arizona taxpayers owed $1 billion from illegal immigration
http://www.kvoa.com/news/arizona-taxpayers-owed-1-billion-from-illegal-immigration/
The cost of illegal immigration has exhausted the Arizona State Treasury. In order to pay for the federal government’s responsibility of securing our national borders and incarcerating individuals who enter the United States illegally and commit crimes, the state has incurred hundreds of millions of dollars of debt to pay these bills,” said Treasurer Dean Martin.
“Both citys mayors are always whining for more LGA (state welfare for citys) but dont seem to mind paying for service illegals use.”
Yeah, funny how that works out, ain’t it?
I’ve probably posted it here about fifty times, going back to the start of the ‘08 primaries.
