SACRAMENTO Democrats can only hope that last week's dust-up between Meg Whitman and Steve Poizner is a sign of things to come in the Republican gubernatorial primary.
The accusations and counterattacks all starting with Poizner, the state's insurance commissioner, charging that Whitman, the billionaire former CEO of eBay, had tried to intimidate him into leaving the campaign appeared to set a course for a brutal and nasty slugfest that could last all the way to the June 8 primary.
A damaging exchange over the next four months if both Republicans are still around is precisely the rough-and-tumble that could send a weakened candidate into the fall against the Democrats' presumptive nominee, state Attorney General Jerry Brown, who is expected to officially enter the race soon.
"Democrats are just sitting back, getting a bowl of popcorn and enjoying the show," said Ben Tulchin, a San Francisco-based Democratic pollster. "This is best-case scenario for Jerry. Not only does he not have to spend money in the primary, but now he gets to sit back and watch Republicans go at it. He can hole up in his loft in Oakland and keep making fundraising calls."

"Both come off as losers," said Corey Cook, a political-science professor at the University of San Francisco. "Nobody wins from this except Jerry Brown. He'll be emerging in polls certainly stronger than a month ago and he still hasn't had to do anything."Guaranteeing another round of Moonbeam governorship.
A weakened Republican candidate against Governor Moonbeam; a race made for TV. Now who would old and flaky enough to play Jerry Brown in a movie? How about Dennis Hopper?
Poizner is a RINO, Whitman is a leftist democrat in RINO clothing. Those and Governor Moonbeam take 2 are our alternatives.
Where conservatives dread, RINO’s rush in. Like, as in Massachusetts.
It’s time to run Conservatives for Governor. Enough of these failed leftist Ah-noldistas.
