I wouldn’t call it “madness” ... but I think, at this point, it is doing more harm than good — i.e. it swings more voters against us than for us. Until we have more information (which we should still pursue), I think it’d be beneficial to the electoral chances in November to let the issue rest.

That's why the Dems are swinging hard on the issue all of a sudden. They think it's a winning strategy to paint Republicans as "birthers" and therefore "crazy fringe lunatics".

They better be careful, though. In 2004, John Edwards would have used the same tactic to attack anyone who questioned his fidelity to his wife.

You don't go quite far enough. What "information" would suffice? Unless someone can prove that Obama's mother was not American born (nobody has argued that), the case is closed: Obama is a ntural born citizen and legally qualified to be president. Whoever thought up this "birther" nonsense?

I think the nation will always be in the same hole it’s in - where we go from electing Republicans who screw us to Democrats who screw us - unless and until we get a handle on government corruption. So you think more information should be pursued .. do tell HOW you think it should be obtained, by asking Barry nicely? You don’t think the media is going to suddenly start asking questions, do you?

Or maybe the only possibility is thru the legal system where, as a practical matter, it’s the only place it can be pursued. In some cases, and we won’t mention any names, it’s been handled as poorly as I’ve ever seen; in others it’s being pursued more professionally. But there really is no alternative to using the courts if any information is ever to be forthcoming.
