Reagan would do as well today as he did in 1980. Mitt Romney simply can’t. You have to dismiss too many positives about Reagan, to classify him as no better than today’s crop of politicians.
Without meaning to be, you are an example of what I think is one of our biggest threats to our nation today.
It has been so long since we actually had a true Conservative present real Conservative values to the nation, that many adults can’t relate to the last man who did.
If you wish to boil Reagan down to the traits you have mentioned, you will have to boil off an incredible amount of good that overshadowed what you are talking about.
Today probably less than 30% of our populace can remember the Reagan years. And although you have been fed some interesting aspects of Reagan, you haven’t been fed the best parts.
Reagan stood head and shoulders above all the other players in the Republican party in 1980. If he were running today, he would tower over today’s crew even more.
I’m sorry you can’t remember Reagan all that well. And you know what, it isn’t your fault. Our leaders should be heralding Conservatism and what Reagan stood for. Instead they want to declare is era dead (that’s how disconnected they are), and his values as if they died with him.
Reagan’s values were eternal.
What I *didn't* expect?
Was to be blown away -- by your raptor sharp memory, impeccable logic couped with your ability to bring perspective and an unyielding sense of justice.
All wrapped up in real, genuine conservatism.
Same stuff that turned me *on*, brought me to a point I could *see* the light.
I am humbled.
Wished I could return to you a fraction of that you've imparted to me.
Helluva guy, that's you pal.
Thank you. ;^)
