Reagan signed on to an amnesty and new policies that were designed to put an end to illegal immigration.

He signed on to grant amnesty to 1.5 million people, what the experts promised the factual number was. 3.5 million people took advantage of the program.

The new laws that would have put employers on notice, tighten the borders, and make it much harder for illegal to operate here, were essentially ignored by Bush, Clinton, Bush, and now Obama. None of these presidents took advantage of the laws on our books, to prevent the illegal immigration problems we now have.

At every turn people who wish to put an end to this illegal immigration situation are told legislation cannot fix this. Truth be told, we have the legislation to fix this on the books already. Our leaders have chosen not to enforce them.

Reagan tried to grant amnestly to something like 0.15% of our then populace. Today we face granting amnesty to in the neighborhood of 6.66 to 10.25% of the current population.

Reagan’s 1.5 million had accumulated since 1966. In twenty years, we were thought to have taken in 1.5 million illegals. That’s a number that equates to about 75,000 per year.

Today we are said to have 11 million here. The adjustment to the 2000 amnesty put the figure at around 8.5 million. The government today wants us to accept that 8.5 million came across our borders in the 1990s, but only 3.5 million have come over since.

We have had between 850 thousand to 2 million people coming across our border each year since 1990.

So you tell me, is what we are facing today, what Reagan faced in his day?

By your inference, it is. So much for your credibility.

It is the same damn thing, i.e our laws being broken and illegals living and working in our country

The point of this whole exercise is that the older generation of cons (I am only 27) was willing to look at the overall picture and not litmus test Reagan out of a chance at becoming the greatest President of the 20th century

Could you imagine what would have happened to him had we held him to the same standards that we do conservatives today?
