Boy, this is no way to limp into your partys convention! I posted earlier (here and here
) on a slew of polls showing Obama slipping against McCain. Even more polls are out this evening showing the same trend, an Obama poll slip. In the first post I noted I predicted Obama would likely limp into his convention down in the polls - seems I was right.
First there is the CBS/NY Times Poll indicating a slip in the last two weeks:
Republican John McCain has cut Democrat Barack Obamas nationwide lead in half, according to the latest CBS News/New York Times poll. Obama now has the support of 45 percent of registered voters, with John McCain closing in at 42 percent. The margin of error is three points.
Two weeks ago, Obamas lead over McCain was 45 percent to 39 percent.
Like the CBS News Poll completed earlier this month
, each candidate is backed by more than three quarters of voters in his own party, with independents closely divided, narrowly favoring McCain.
Emphasis mine. As I noted back on August 4th Obama is losing the moderate middle of the electorate, which means he will end up losing the election if this trend continues. This is why McCain is smart to keep his eye on the middle of the electorate instead of worrying about the unpredictable and unreliable far right who have threaten to sit out the election about once a week. That is no place to put faith in voter turnout.
If the Far Right do sit out this election, then that leaves the far left and middle voters as the majority of the votes that will be cast. If McCain can steal the middle voters Obama has no shot at winning the election - whether the far right sit out or not. The threats to sit out because of McCain is moderate on some issues have created their just rewards. McCain has to keep as much of his base as possible, but he cannot do so to the point he loses the moderate middle.
Obama has the opposite problem, since far left liberals make up a much larger portion of the Democrat Base. The GOP base is chock full of moderates, which is why they keep winning the Presidency and only Democrats who run as faux conservatives can challenge them. Obama has gone as far to the middle as he can afford to already, flip flopping on major issues dear to the liberal mindset (e.g., FISA laws updates, Hand Guns, Abortion, etc).
The other poll out is the NBC/WSJ poll:
The author is just plain silly. One's base is where the bulk of votes come from. The mushy middle isn't mushy simply because they frequently change their minds. They often don't bother to vote.
“If the Far Right do sit out this election”
Not sure what this jackass considers “far” right but if portions of the base will not vote for McCain, it is because of something that he either HAS done or will do between now and the election. If he picks a pro-baby murder VP, large portions of the base will sit home and watch him lose. Yes, pro-lifers would rather see the man stand on principle and lose than to embrace a baby murderer.
OK....
The last time I checked, we were very predictable. It's the "youth vote" that never shows up to the polls.
He Haw! Hey Junior $inator, Obama, the Oreo. How are you doing down there with the Poll number Changes? Change can be a B$tch!
ROFL!
I think he's talking about you. That aside, I'm thinking far left or far right are one issue voters...those that cast votes on where a candidate stands on a single issue, rather than taking the dozens of important issues at hand, weighing them accordingly and coming to a decision based on where candidate is positioned the full spectrum of political colors.
“If he picks a pro-baby murder VP, large portions of the base will sit home and watch him lose.”
Here is a good example of the “far right”. It doesn't matter that McCain is much better on the WOT, the size of government, how he will pick SC nominees or even that he is pro-life himself. If he picks A VICE PRESIDENT (?) that isn't solid on abortion the pro life crowd will sit out the election and insuring that a militant anti-pro-life candidate sits in the White House, signing pro-abort legislation and nominating militant pro-aborts to the SC.
I believe that's called cutting off your nose to spite your face. It's also why true conservatives who understand how the political game is played is getting tired of the ultimatums issued from the “far right”.
You sound like spoiled children threatening to hold your breath of you don't get exactly what you want.
Yes, pro-lifers would rather see the man stand on principle and lose than to embrace a baby murderer.
And those that support the GOP at all costs fail to realize is that for many “far right” conservatives, is that we consider it a SIN to vote for someone who advocates murdering babies. Thus if the GOP decides to go down that path, then we can not walk with them for our SOULs are worth more than all of America or a political party.
“I think he’s talking about you. That aside, I’m thinking far left or far right are one issue voters...”
Pro-life
anti-illegal alien
Pro-military
Pro-Constitution (ALL of it)
Low taxes
anti-gay “marriage”
That’s me and if those issues make me “far right” then I wear that label with pride.
“And those that support the GOP at all costs fail to realize is that for many far right conservatives, is that we consider it a SIN to vote for someone who advocates murdering babies. Thus if the GOP decides to go down that path, then we can not walk with them for our SOULs are worth more than all of America or a political party.”
Agree 1000%
“Yes, pro-lifers would rather see the man stand on principle and lose than to embrace a baby murderer.”
You damned right.
Of course these polls from the drive-by media is skewed in favor of Obambi by 3 to 5%, so it’s actually worse than it appears.
This jerk probably thinks hardcore lefties like Graham, Chambliss, Dole and are far right!
Yes, pro-lifers would rather see the man stand on principle and lose than to embrace a baby murderer.
McCain is a baby murderer?
“McCain is a baby murderer?”
I realize from previous experience that critical thinking is not your strong suit so I’ll type slowly for you.
If the RINO relic picks a VP that favors the murder of babies, then HE would be the one embracing a baby murderer.
It would also signal that he is not trustworthy on even the most fundamental of conservative ideals.
While I am now leaning towards voting for McCain, if he does pick a VP that favors the murder of children, then he will simply not get my vote.
That is not to say that I am a single issue voter as I pointed out to you in my previous post. I have several issues that concern me.
Life is at or near the top.
“And those that support the GOP at all costs fail to realize is that for many far right conservatives, is that we consider it a SIN to vote for someone who advocates murdering babies.”
I understand. But isn’t this vote for President, for McCain?
If you take that position with his VP nominee than any pro-life voter who has ever given money to their local, state or the national GOP has committed a sin and will probably go to hell because there are politicians in the GOP that are moderate on abortion, some are even pro-choice.
So any money given to the GOP on any level is money going to support some of the sinners who define themselves as Republicans.
If you’re going to dig in and draw a line in the sand, you can’t have it both ways.
“While I am now leaning towards voting for McCain...”
Do you mean to tell me after the months of the anti-McCain bullshit, and I mean BULLSHIT, you have been dumping on a daily basis here at FR, you now say you might vote for McCain?
What a POSer you are. Nobody should trust a word you say.
