McCain should throw it right back in Obama's face, he should say: Sen. Obama understands the power of perception to influence behaviors, I mean that's why he started using the Presidential Seal even before he had the nomination. Or say: Obama knows a lot about perception, that's why he wants to speak at the Brandenberg Gate... Or whatever he can say without seeming to take too cheap a shot.
If anybody from the McCain campaign is reading this, please, wake up! I wrote my college thesis on perceptions and how they impact economic expectations. And the eminent Martin Feldstein wrote eloquently on the subject in the early 80s. I mean Hell, isn't mental attitude part of any winning team? You don't have to be an Economist to understand it. If you were ever on a football team, or set your sights on getting a better job, mental attitude is part of it...Incredible!
I know the "all-knowing" politicos will say the people are too dumb and don't have the attention span, but I really think they are selling the people short. Plus, the horse is already out of the barn. There's no way McCain can credibly distance himself from Gramm. Didn't McCain say he didn't know anything about Economics. He's never run a for-profit enterprise, Gramm and Kemp were his bona fides.
Of course McCain had to denounce the Whiners idea, but the idea that the economy reacts to expectations is well documented. Instead of McLame taking 3 minutes to explain it and even making it part of his theme, he throws away any chance of distance from the idea. He can't throw Gramm off the bus, I mean who's going to believe that he won't remain his friend?
Gramm spoke the truth and because it will take some work to explain the idea, McCain throws him off the "Straight Talk Express." Why? Because of some "straight talk." I think this little thing has the potential to be a disaster, somebody better wake up.
Sorry, I had to vent a bit.
Gramm was absolutely right.
Nothing in his statement was wrong. Nothing. We HAVE become a nation of whiners and we DO have the best economy on the earth. We are also NOT in a recession, but the media wants you to think we are.
Gramm was absolutely right. He was spot on.
The people talking doom and gloom always talk doom and gloom. Now they have the help of the media, and the media makes the story.
Gasoline prices at $4. plus have nothing to do with Gramm’s comments. Nothing. Some people like to complain constantly and always look to big daddy government to help them in some aspect of their life.
