Comments? No, but I have a question... Why is McCain always referred to as a 'War Hero?' Seriously, he donned his country's uniform and served. So have millions of other Americans, and even non-Americans. Does that make him a hero?

He graduated almost last in his Naval Academy class. Does that make him a hero?

He lost in accidents at least 3 airplanes that I know about. Most aviators go a whole career without losing any. Does losing planes (not talking about the one that was shot out from under him) make one a hero?

He was shot down by enemy fire. Does that make him a hero, or merely unlucky? Ask about all the other airmen shot down from the skies... Were they heroes one and all? Did they all get medals? Are they all going around proclaiming they were heroes? This needs to be asked.

He was a POW. Is this heroic, or again merely unfortunate for him. Ask the thousands of POW's from our wars and police actions, are they heroes for being captured or merely unfortunate? This needs to be asked.

I personally know heroes. They were not decorated nor called heroes by any but the people around them that are alive today because of their heroic actions. John McCain had one chance to be a hero, but he ran and hid in the sick bay instead of helping fight the fires or aiding his injured brothers in arms. John McCain is not a hero.

John McCain is a short, nasty man who dosn't wash his hands after a visit to the men's room and then shakes everyone's hand. Would I like to be like John McCain? No. Would I like my son to grow up to be like John McCain? No. They why is he a hero, having done nothing but be unfortunate and or careless with government property, when others who have done truly heroic deeds while wearing their country's uniform are not called hero's, but only veterans? I want to know.

Why is he called a 'hero'?

There is probably some long drawn out psycho-babble reasoning available to explain this. But I'd venture a guess that it is necessary for his advocates to do this to assuage their own beliefs. People want to believe that those they support are somehow more nobler, wiser or better equipped than the opponents. It helps calm their fears and feeds their own egos that they are making the right choice.
This 'hero' word is much over-used. And, IMO, is completely degraded by using it to refer to any politician. Said politico may have performed some heroic deed in another situation, but being a politician probably cancels out any 'hero karma' he/she may have gained.

Just my opinion.

As a former liberal, I think it's an aspect of the liberal mind fog which dictates that the more noble someone claims to be, the more of an insult it would be to question their claims.

I don't know what conditions John McCain faced in the Hanoi Hilton. My personal suspicion would be that there was some personal advantage to him there versus returning stateside, but I'm sure any evidence that could confirm or refute such suspicions has been destroyed many years ago.

There may also be a tie in with the liberal mantra that everyone is either a victim or an oppressor. Since people don't want to think of themselves as "oppressors", that leaves only one alternative. The "hero" card offers a third alternative, though there's no particular logic about when it can actually be played.

Herd thinking and herd actions lead the whole herd to the slaughter.

I didn’t say I was following the herd by voting for McCain in the primary. If Romney is still on our ballot, I will probably vote for him—or Huckabee. However, McCain looks like the likely nominee.

If I have to eat a sandwich of rotten meat, I would rather take a single slice (RINO) than the double-decker or club (Obama or Clinton). Did you know that Clinton will enact legislation to force us to buy expensive health insurance policies (thus enriching insurance companies) and garnish our wages if we refuse?

Voting for whatever candidate the party serves up is herd thinking.

What Hillary or Obama will do, McCain will do. I think it's interesting, if not prophetic, that the name "McCain" means the son of Cain.

McCaint is just like John Glenn. Any heroism they achieved has been negated by their service as politicians. I’m referring to John Glen becoming a shill for Bill Clinton so he could have a final space ride.

Free trade is a hallmark conservative position.

The anti-free trade position is a hallmark of the unions and is the reason that I abandoned Duncan Hunter as a candidate. The Hunter supporters, along with the Huckabee supporters are largely responsible for handing the nomination to McCain, not because of the large number of voters, but because of their use of the politics of mass destruction.

Bingo! Come November, I plan to write in Hunter, Tancredo, Thompson, or Lou Dobbs, or vote for the Constitution Party (if it is on the ballot in my state). McCain is just the GOP’s Hillary in temperament and “it’s now my turn” stance.
