With the primaries crammed together in such a short time frame and these guys are already on the ballots, why would anyone drop out?

Fred to Tim Russert, “I was wondering if he [McCain]decides to end his [campaign] if he would endorse me.”

Now Politico is suggesting it was McCain’s camp that put out the Fred dropping out rumor? This is getting better all the time. Fox is now saying it was the Romney camp (which seem substantiated earlier this a.m. here on FR).

Politico is really trying to muck things up in the Iowa caucus. Tune in. It’s not over by a long shot.

McCain may drop out ...
After he turns on and tunes in, of course.

It is time for some candidates to begin dropping out and throwing their support to Fred. I can’t imagine why Tancredo went for Romney.

Politico is dropping out and sending all their readers to FR.

It says he may drop out and support Thompson then says he played dirty tricks on Thompson. McCain didn’t campaign in Iowa and is leading in NH. Any showing for him in Iowa is a plus.

Do these folks at Politico have any credibility at all?

Remember when they announced John Edwards was dropping out....

Rasmussen today has Romney barely ahead, everybody’s between 13 and 18 percent. http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_20082/daily_presidential_tracking_polling_history

I assume this is just a fake rumor to poke fun at the “Fred’s Dropping Out and Endorsing McCain” lie posted earlier...but I wish it would happen! (McCain dropping that is!)

Do these folks at Politico have any credibility at all?

I have a general disregard for the MSM, and a specific suspicion of anyone associated with the Washington Post after the Macaca coverage of George Allen. Therefore, I have extreme suspicion of the motives of the Politico (formed by former WaPo staffers) and its rapid ascension as a leading punditry of politics.

To me, this is another echo chamber effect, where someone plants a story and then the rest of the MSM echos the story all day long, presumably because "the story" is now the story -- it is no longer about the factual basis for the allegations (or lack thereof).

This gives the MSM cover to continue talking about "the story," the denials of "the story," the investigation of "the story," etc. It is nothing but self-aggrandizing of the MSM, by the MSM, and for the MSM.

Nice thought, but lately, Politico is about as reliable a source of information as TASS used to be.

The top Politico editor was just on Fox and told Chris Wallace that the rumor was true and came from “several top Thompson advisers”. ( Unnamed of course).

Wallace never challenged him for names and let it stand!
