Pearce eyes possible Congressional run against Flake

State. Rep. Russell Pearce -- a Mesa Republican and a conservative firebrand in the immigration debate -- has formed an exploratory committee for a possible Congressional run.

Pearce -- who favors tighter immigration controls -- is eyeing a possible challenge of U.S. Rep. Jeff Flake, R-Mesa.

Flake has been a proponent of the business-backed guest worker program and federal immigration reforms that include a legal path for undocumented migrants already in the U.S.

Pearce opposes such reforms and is a key advocate of a new state law that calls for revocation of business licenses if employers are caught knowingly hiring illegals more than once. Pearce has said his immigration stance is about "the rule of law" and blasts businesses that hire illegal workers.

While Jeff Flake has done good work on earmark reform, he’s a supporter of amnesty for illegal aliens. Russell Pearce is the better candidate. Hopefully, local conservatives will work for him.

Flake sold us out prior to the 2006 elections.

And he's a Castro supporter.

I didn’t know about Flake being a Castro supporter. Clearly, he lives up to his last name.

Hopefully, Pearce will be the next Congressman.

“Tim Bee needs to sting Goobriella Giffords.”

Indeed. Her voting record gives me hives.

Clintonfatigued,

You are wrong, wrong, wrong. Jeff Flake is one of the best Republicans in Congress. He forced Tom DeLay out of the Majority Leader position. He opposes corruption. He nails it on fiscal issues 100%.

I’m one of those conservatives that favors reasonable immigration laws. So even on immigration, I support Rep. Flake.

I stole my political worldview from the Wall Street Journal’s Robert Bartley. It boils down to five words: “Free Markets and Free People”. Rep. Flake’s position on immigration satisfies both halves of my political philosophy.

Nativists and protectionists seem to have a lot in common to me. I don’t know what guides them, but it isn’t any form of conservative philosophy.

Pearce has said his immigration stance is about "the rule of law" and blasts businesses that hire illegal workers.

When it comes to immigration policy, we can change the law. This "rule of law" argument is phony. There is nothing inherently wrong with immigration. We're talking about the appropriate public policy here. Rep. Flake advocates an immigration policy that is in alignment with economic forces such as supply and demand. America needs to satisfy its need for labor. Rep. Flake's guest worker program does that.

Opposition to a guest worker program is a form of protectionism. Protectionism doesn't work. If you don't believe me, just look at the past 30 years of immigration policy. It hasn't worked.

The reason the immigration policy in place right now hasn’t worked is because no one has made any effort to enforce it.

Also, many of these immigrants are not the hard-working, family-oriented types of legend, but gang members and career criminals. They have committed many violent crimes against native Americans. Las Vegas, Phoenix, and Albuquerque are in the midst of serious crime waves due to them. Also, they have caused many traffic accidents, as they can’t read the traffic signs.

While I acknowlege that Jeff Flake has done some good things, his stance on illegal immigration is something that can’t be overlooked. Russell Pearce, a decorated law enforcement officer wounded on duty a number of times, is the better candidate.
