We’ve put up a new section on the website. You can now dig into Fred’s stance on issues like national security, the budget, taxes, and healthcare. Fred believes these are serious problems which will require us to unite behind common sense solutions; and this section of Fred08.com will provide some insight into his approach on these topics.

Let us know what you think. What issue concerns you the most?

Why won't he debate tonight?

There is a debate going on right now as we FReep (in Florida I believe), with more than 1/2 of the announced Presidential GOP candidates in attendence. I just found the video stream.

I believe Mr. Thompson and some of the other major players are also not there though.

Was there any statement yet on that?

The reason Fred did not participate in this debate has been posted Ad Nauseum(sp)!

And I paraphrase Fred hear because I am too lazy to look it up. Something to the effect of:

"8 trained seals on the stages doing tricks so someone will throw them a fish"

He also went on to say that he be taking part in future debates.

Finally. Been looking forward to an issues section being added to Fred08.com, where folks can go to get a rundown of Fred`s policy agenda.

Hope it helps to inform some of the dunderheads.

From last Friday: On the campaign trail this week, Thompson was asked why he was not participating in the Values Voter debate in Fort Lauderdale on Monday. In typical Thompson form, he responded:

"Debates are important, but let's don't let the tail wag the dog here. Standing up there 10 in a row, you know, like a bunch of seals waiting for someone to throw you the next fish is not necessarily the best way to impart your information to the American people," Thompson said. "I'm not above acting like a seal every once in a while and waiting for the next fish. I just don't want to do it all the time."

Honest and straightforward. Go Fred go!

Avoiding debates where he can be challenged to defend his views in detail might be a great way to get him closer to the White House.

My, wouldn't that be great. We are all guaranteed to come out ahead with that approach.

Thanks for the quotes.

Frankly, I don’t care if Fred shows up to any of the future primary debates. This time around the number of GOP debates is out of control and for the most part, they’ve been uneventful. No one is gonna remember most of these dog and pony shows anyway. Of course, Fred will attend some debates. How many, who knows.

Primary debates have never been a major factor in determining who I vote for. Most people I know don't vote fior someone based on how well they do in debates. After all, Republicans aren’t nominating the best debater. We are nominating the best man for POTUS. And right now, that appears to boil down to two candidates. One liberal named Giuliani and one conservative named Fred Thompson.

Uh, Okayyyy.

You mean, you don't recall one of the best lines in a primary debate EVER, when the very man of your Freeper moniker-namesake, chewed out journalists, referencing his microphone he had bought? That 1980 Nashua primary debate in New Hampshire was a pivotal moment, and even President Reagan stated that later that it "helped me take the White House."

I am sorry. These debates are important.

It think there is just rationalizing going on about avoiding them--I think unless someone comes down with the shingles or german measles, no reason why one should duck.

Later debates are important. The current ones are stupid and demeaning.

Ironically, Reagan avoided all the debates in the summer and fall of '79, and Nashua was the ONE and ONLY debate he participated in for the nomination. And don't try to rationalize away this fact.

>>>>>These debates are important.

To borrow a phrase: "There you go again". In the 1980 primary campaign, Ronald Reagan's campaign manager John Sears kept him out of many debates in what was called, an "above the fray strategy".

Fred`s campaign announced last night he will attend the debate on Oct 9, 2007 in Dearborn Michigan. The truth of the matter is, attending these debates seems to be important to some folks. The actual debates themselves and their perceived outcome have never had a serious impact on the nomination process. Once the field is narrowed down to the top tier candidates then debates become more relevant.

These debates are a media circus and always have been.

Reagan didn’t announce until November 13, 1979!
